Hows you's getting on at modifying....

....or replacing your 'sites from v7 to v8?

Now that you've had a bit of time to get used to it is the learning curve as steep as I think it is, or is it not so bad once you get into it?

    Anything to watch for?

George - without a doubt the hardest thing is getting away from the "templates" thought process and the second is grasping the immensity of the control the new "variables"open up.

I have 'upgraded' my site in BETA, but will wait for the release version before doing what really needs to be done - a complete rework.

The key is "replacing" rather than upgrading IMHO.

As with Bill - it is getting out of the old template mindset that is the real struggle - especially if you are fully conversant with the "old ways" and still working on v7 concurrent to v8.

You are best approaching v8 as a stranger to Actinic.

        Very true....

I've been working on V8 with new designs only, my plan is to upgrade each site and then convert to a v8 written design. ie a complete rebuild. (this may involve the convert to clean layout in v7 before going to 8)

V8 is quite easy to get your head around (after you've been on the design course!) as long as you forget everything you knew before.

I intend "washing" the sites through v7 first before converting to v8.

V8 has so much more capability it is worth rebuilding the site - though not essential - but it is a good a time as any to re-brand the site, bring it up to date and re-launch afresh... inlcuding new logo's <<<focus Mr Mackie >>>

Bit of a brainwashing session this course then? Suppose I could use that as an excuse forgetting various birthdays and stuff.

Looks like a lorra lorra work (for us all) though...

I think it's fair to say that it is a great advancement on v7, although I have to say that my knowledge is fairly limited on the variables etc as yet!!

I have attempted a newly registered design with Actinic and built the site in css. Can be seen at stringer-family.co.uk

I feel that a rebuild of any sites would be a good way to go.
