Comparison guide between v7 and v8

I've been reading through the list of new features but I don't see any real difference on the functionality rather the 'improvements' are cosmetic and relating to design.

Major requirements such as flexible shipping rates that avoid global use and no override appears to be missing.
Digital download not having to be upload again on refresh.

It would be easier to see just what is new, what has been improved and what is new.

However this is all academic until the final release is made.

    Hi Duncan

I'm sure once you start exploring v8 a bit more you will discover that the design improvements are not cosmetic. We have completely re-written the engine used for generating the site - making it much more flexible and much easier for designers and developers to customise the pages and add in their own functionality.

Yep - we have held up our hands elsewhere to this. We basically need to completely re-write the way we calculate shipping - and this work is happening as I write. It is not a minor task, but the updated shipping engine should be available during v8's lifetime.

When you do a refresh, you will see you have the option to exclude digital download files.
It would be easier to see just what is new, what has been improved and what is new.
    Here is a quick overview:
    • One-click order completion, allowing you to complete orders with a single operation
    • Ability to extract mailing list data from Actinic, to import into Gropmail, Outlook etc.
    • Lists of best selling products
    • Lists of new products
    • Lists of related items on a product by product basis
    • 'Customers who bought this also bought...' lists for each product
And then the new design flexibility allows things like:
    • Automatically-generated full details pages with add to cart buttons
    • Automatically re-scalled thumbnail images
    • Three currency display
    • Additional pop-up windows per product.
Check out the Advanced Users Guide for more things to do in Actinic.

Thanks Chris for your detailed reply.

I'll take a closer look when I get time to look at it in depth. But perhaps best left until the official release version.

The postage aspect is a real issue and really needs addressing earlier than later.

      TIA Duncan
