Auto Page Preview Not Showing - Intermittent

    Hi,

When in either Content or Design mode, the page preview screen (top window) does not generate intermittently and I get the standard response of:-

    The Page Cannot Be Displayed

The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

However, if I switch between the Content and Design tabs, the page is regenerated and all is well. This is very intermittent and I cannot seem to see any logical reasons for it happening.

There are (were?) some known bugs with not hitting apply / OK after making some changes that cause such issues. The only way to resolve is to change the tabs and very rarely a restart of Actinic.

      Hi Jont,

This does not happen after I have applied or not applied a change. It seems to be even after I have restarted Actinic.

I have tried to isolate the problem and I have found that if I am in the Content Tree and the page is NOT displayed, I switch to Design Mode and I see the page I want. If in Design mode -->Content Tree and move to another page/section the page does NOT generate again. If I then click on Content Tab again I can see the page but again if I select another page/section, it all starts again.

I have a demo coming up on Tuesday and I need to sort this or I have to revert back to a V7 demo.

        More info...

In Content Tree, if I click on the pages or Sections no page is dsiplayed. However, if i click on a fragment or product within the catalogue area, the page DOES display. If I click on a fragment in the brochure area, the page does NOT display. However, the paghe does very quicly flash before it is replaced with The Page Cannot be Displayed.

          Fixed - Automatically detect settings

In browser, Go to Tools-->Internet Options-->Connections-->Settings (for dial up) place tick in the Automatically Detect Settings. While you are in Connections, just check your LAN Settings and do the same there.

          This fixed my problem

            Mark,

Do your pages contain any in-line content that come from a remote server (referrer script, visitor counter, payment provider logo, etc)?

              Norman,

No nothing is referred externally as I am aware. I am still playing with one of the standard themes (cant remember which one as I have now moved into the advanced area)

              UPDATE

I dont know what is happening now as it has all started again. Ie NO auto preview page of main pages in either brochures or sections. Click on section fragments or products and the page displays in page preview.

Hi Mark - are you using the latest production version of the software? There was a problem in this area in Beta 2 that has been fixed now - i.e the preview appeared to go blank.

Chris, I thought I had done a complete install but I will go through and delete the old version again and do a complete new install. I will report back

I have done a complete uninstall, then reinstall of Actinic GIKA and I still have the same problem.

The problem only seems to be on the brochure and section pages. If I select a product or fragment (within the catalog area) the page displays. If I select a fragment in the brochure pages, the page does not display.

I really could do with getting this sorted as I have a demo to show V8

Mark - I have never heard seen this happening before, and cannot suggest a solution.

Are you using an external design, or are you using one of the built-in designs that came with Actinic? Have you edited the overall page layouts at all? What happens if you try an offline page preview when the page is being shown as not displayed?

The best thing to do would probably be to send a snapshot of your site in to Actinic Support (register an email support query at http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm and the team will request your snapshot) and they can do an import and see what might be causing the problem. At least they can see whether the problem is your design or your PC.

On that subject, have you got the IE7 beta installed? This caused preview issues in v7 - which might manifest differently in v8.

                        Chris,

I am using a design that came with V8, just to make sure I have not done anything. I reinstalled the software and started using the generic version. I have not edited any pages. I dont have IE7 or anything else like it.

I can preview the pages (all of them) if I use the preview button (either single page or complete site).

The page seems to flash before it is replaced with the Page Cannot be Displayed page.

I have loaded the same software on my desktop (as opposed to my laptop) to see if it is the same there. It does now seem that it may be my laptop that is at fault, but I will keep looking.

                        Chris,

Can you explain what is happening to the page preview, as it seems that the page momentarilly flashes (I can see the page for literally 1 second) then is replaced with the Page Cannot be Displayed?

Has this one been resolved? I have the same thing happening with 8.0.2 GJUA (trialling) with an external DW registered design.

On loading Actinic in Designer mode:
Content view gives 'page cannot be displayed', but switching to Design view (displays OK), then back to Content and it's there.

Running the site in Catalog Client:
Page cannot be displayed - obviously no means of going into Design view here to 'fix' it.

                          Both of the above:
Selecting a fragment in the content tree displays correctly the page which that fragment is on.

I also have Actinic 7 installed (not that that should matter).

                          Regards, Dan

                          -----------------

Problem has 'gone away'. Not sure what I did though. Will update/send snapshot if it recurs.

                            Dan,

Please raise a support ticket on this. We will need a snapshot as well as details such as the OS you are on, which Service pack, browser details, where have you installed etc.

                            Kind regards,

I also have a similar problem with an external design, it is very irritating.

Has this been resolved or do I need to open up a support ticket?

                              regards
