Content Tree - Copy and Paste

With V7 it was possible to copy the content tree from one site to another. As I am having problems upgrading a site I decided it would be easier to licence a new site and copy the content tree from one to the other.

When I open the content tree in the new site I found that some sections were ok but the majority were either blank pages or only had the header/footer, all the products were missing even though they were shown ok in the content tree

Pasting in a single brochure page from another upgraded V8 site causes Actinic to crash every time the new page is selected in the new site.

I cannot even delete it as any atempt to go near it crashes Actinic.

This was never really a supported operation in Actinic, so it was never maintained as a feature during the upgrade to v8 - sorry about that.

An alternative way to do it would be to export a hierarchical file from one site, and import it in another. This would just get your content tree moving accross.

Doing this I get the error:

Syntax error in header directive at line 4 Invalid Record Name

Then the import stops

I had exactly the same error on importing a v7 hierarcical file into v8

i have 2 v7 sites I want to merge into one V8, i created a snapshot for one site and tried to import the hierarcical xls for the 2nd.

Malcolm,

Are you trying to import V8 to V8 or V7 to V8, if it is V7 make sure that you do not have the customvar headers in there because they are not supported in V8.

Its V7 to V8 the site does not use customvars - are the headers added by default to the export?

I think that they might be, post them here if you like and we can work out which are no longer needed.

Malcolm - Whoops - sorry. I thought you were talking about transferring a content tree between two v8 sites - not between v7 and v8. I wouldn't have expected this to work.

If you have a Designer or Business Multi-Site license you could license a temporary site, import a full v7 snapshot into the temp v8 site and upgrade it, and then export a hierarchical file from the temp site and import it into the current site.

Jo - you need to merge the sites in v7 before bringing them into v8.

Can you copy and paste multiple products within the content tree. In V7 it was possible to select multiple products and paste them into another section as duplicates in one go. When I try this in V8 it only pastes the first product - a pain if you have hundreds to do!

This is a bug in v8. You should be able to do this - but you can't. You can only do it one at a time.

This won't be fixed in 8.0.1 - but it should be in the maintenance release after that.
