    customvars ?

    Hi
Is there anyway of upgrading a V7 site with customvars ?

If not, is there a way of replicating customvars in V8 ?

We use customvars in v7 for additional images, and rrp prices etc, which are updated via database .. ,
So its very important we keep customvars if possible.

    Thanks in advance

They're still there. Only now they're called Variables.

Look in Design / Library / Variables (where right-clicking will let you create some new ones) and consult the Help, where there's a section called Understanding Variable.

Actinic can do a lot of custom work at page generation time. It could work out the difference between the product price and RRP to give a discount percentage for example.

      Thanks Norman, I'll study variables.

Horrible feeling we may stick with V7 for a long time, just because of the non-upgradable customvars.

        Bea,

It will be worth the time you spend on the upgrade as you will easilly recover this in the longterm. I would highly recommend the perseverance to do the conversion

When you upgrade your site from v7 to v8 does it not convert your customvars?

I am sure I saw it do that?

          May be wrong....

The customvars are there as pointed out by Norman.

You may find the variable options appearing against every product though which is annoying more than a problem... espaecially if you have lots of variables listed. This can be easily resolved by editing the variable selector to assign to only specific groups.

Absolutely. As Norman says, they become 'User Definable Variables' in v8 and they are much more powerful because:
              • You can choose to only have the variables settable for certain types of products in your store
              • You can preset a range of values for the variable
              • You can set a default value at the top of the store structure, and then choose whether to use that value or override it at the product level
              • Create clever conditions in the design based on the value of the variable
              • And lots of other stuff I haven't thought of yet...
Instead of setting them up in 'Advanced | Custom Properties', you'll see your user-definable variables in 'Design | Library | Variables'.
