Variable not shwoing at checkout

I have created a new Variable and have succesfully incorporated in a product layout. However, when I add the product to the basket and go to the checkout pages I get the following:

CUSTOMVAR:LISBN

This shows as a line underneatth the Prodcut name.

What ahve I not done in order for this variable to show up on the Checkout page

Against the variable where did you declare it is available at?

Variable setting

I presume you mean "Place of setting" when you refer to "declare it available at".

I set it for Site and Product

Thats the one no v8 on this machine so guessed the phraseology

User-definable variables shouldn't appear in the cart or checkout by default. They will only appear there if you have edited the cart or checkout layouts and added the variable in there - but even then they won't necessarily be given a value.

Have you edited the cart/checkout layouts at all? Could you show me a URL where this is happening?

Also - is your site an upgraded site or a completely fresh install?
