    Add To Cart Problems

I have got Add To Cart buttons in my Extended Info pop-up windows. When the button is clicked the content of the pup-up transfers to the bounce page. How can I get the window to close as well as having the customer re-directed to the bounce (view basket) page?

Also, on a page with only a single product the Add to Cart button does not work, but if I duplicate the product to give the page two products then the Add To Cart buttons work ok. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

    Hi,

How can I get the window to close as well as having the customer re-directed to the bounce (view basket) page?
The best way to do this would be to have the pop-up window open in the same window - see this thread for more details.

Also, on a page with only a single product the Add to Cart button does not work
Is this the popup add to cart button or the normal one? I've tried both on a default site and it works ok for me. Can we have a URL to see an example of it not working please

      Hi,

Ok here's an example page :

      http://www.test.cosmetics4less.net/a...s_Blusher.html

There's an add to cart button in the pop-up and on the main page so you can see what is (and what is not) happening when each one is clicked.

Is that what is supposed to happen then when you press the Add To Cart button in a pop-up? Looks a bit messy because it doesn't update the shopping cart summary even when the pop-up is closed.

          Just taking this question:

I've taken a look at http://www.test.cosmetics4less.net/a...s_Blusher.html and although there is a single product on the page, it seems to add to cart fine. Have you made any changes to your site since posting the original message?

With regards to the pop-up window and the cart button, to be honest the add to cart button will only work well in a page opened in the same browser window - not a pop-up page. I suggest you set up your store to work this way. It's simple enough to copy all your layout from the overall page layout to the 'Includes Add To Cart Button' extended info page layout.

            Hi Chris,

The add to Cart button on that page does not work on my computer for some reason - I have tested it on two separate computers with the same result.

I haven't made any changes since I posted, no.

Seeing as there is an option to have an Add to Cart button in the extended info pop-up page I thought it would work, otherwise why is it there?

Unfortunately I am once again disillusioned with the Actinic software. You may be aware that I previously had a problem with an imported page design whereby I could not directly select content for editing using the preview pane. I managed to solve that by completely uninstalling and then re-installing both Dreamweaver and Actinic and re-building the page from scratch. All seemed to be well until today when I was on the phone to technical support getting some guidance on how to use searchable properties and I find that the same problem has occurred yet again.

I am now unable to select content for editing in any of my shop pages.

Unless tech support can find a solution I am faced with having to start all over again. I wouldn't mind so much if I knew why this was happening. Without knowing the cause of the problem I have no way to be sure that it will not happen again.

For the benefit of others who may encounter problems with this I think the problems are stemming from making changes in Dreamweaver to a design that has already been registered with Actinic.

I managed to find a snapshot from two days ago in which everything is fully editable but when I edited the page templates in Dreamweaver and returned to Actinic, some areas such as the Product Layout area were no longer editable.

I have tried this several times and it doesn't happen every time, so I can't say for sure what exactly is causing the problem.

Anyone using a custom design made in Dreamweaver who does not need to re-edit that design in Dreamweaver will probably not have the same experiences that I have had, but if you do need to revise the design in Dreamweaver after having registered it with Actinic you may find problems (hopefully you won't, I'm just hoping that by sharing these experiences and glitches that exist can be ironed out).

As for the Add To Cart button - I asked a friend to test it and he is finding the same thing: the button on the page itself (not the pop-up) does not work.

With the Add To Cart button in the pop-up - when that is clicked it does not update the Shopping Cart Summary on the main page (although it does on the page that is displayed within the pop-up).

Surely there must be a way of getting that to work without having to abandon the pop-up and go for a full-page layout?

                Rob,

I've just tried your sample page and found that both the main window and your popup page 'add to basket' worked ok! It added the £4.00 in twice and showed to purchases in the view basket.

                I'm using Firefox.

                hth,

                David

I just tried it in Netscape and the button on the page seems ok but still getting the same with the pop-up one (not updating shopping cart summary on the main page although it does add item to cart)

There be some weird things going on around here

You're right, both work in Firefox, but still not in IE6

I think the problem is in this line...

                      <table width="100%" border="1" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bordercolor="#CCCCCC"><tr><td colspan="2"
The <td colspan="2" is missing a closing '>' and this is causing the site to behave oddly - and may be causing the problem with selecting products.

If you view the source of the page in Firefox, you'll see the offending tag is highlighted in red.

                        Hi Chris,

Thanks for pointing that out. That has solved the add to cart issue on the page. It's not connected to the other issue of being able to select and edit content though.

I think the best thing to do would be to start a new site. If I start a new site and register a new design from within Dreamweaver, I'm assuming that it won't affect any of the page templates already in existence for site 1 - is that right?

                        Thanks again, Rob.

That's right - each site has its own separate library, so your external design will only affect that one site.

Just make sure you have Actinic open in the site where you want to add the new design before you register it.
