    Thoughts on V8 so far...

    Hi Guys

As we approach completion of our very first V8 site for a client, I thought I would share our thoughts on V8 and hopefully gleam some insight into any potential solutons or indeed just bounce some ideas around with fellow users.

First off, I have to say the learning curve was not as steep as first envisaged. The transition from V7 to V8 has proved pretty smooth and grasping the 'basic concepts' has proved straight forward.

We particularly enjoy the freedom (and ease) of deploying a custom design from within DW into actinic, very swish and brings Actinic bang up to date with other software versions we have worked on and indeed surpasses others. Bravo.

But with change there of course, comes some teething problems and V8 is no exception. The main issues (many of which have been addressed on this forum and through support have been ID'd and will be removed no doubt in the future releases) we encountered that have increased our development time thus far have been the stability of the program, the complex nature of integrating specific cgi functions with href HTML, variable integration/performance within certain CSS statements and of course the ever present Access 'treacle effect' on cumbersome databases (not exclusive to V8 I know, )

We were made aware that there may be an increase in development time which could lead to inflated costs for our clients, but fortunately we have not encountered too much of an increase in this sphere, so phew for that.

In conclusion we find this version a massive leap into the modern era and in our opinion, the market leading e-commerce solution has just got even better! With the minor niggles ironed out (and one day an online database facility introduced) we envisage developing a long and continued relationship with Actinic that many of you have already enjoyed.

I look forward to reading other users views and wish you all the best of luck in the coming trading periods.

    Regards

    Thanks for this Daren

Handling support on the Community, I generally only get to hear about v8 when people have problems. It's great to also here when it is working well.
