ISP Time is GMT all year

HI I am evaluating Actinic and have a problem where the cart summary always shows zeros.
The FAQ says it may be a problem with the host time settings.
Demon have just confirmed that they use GMT all year.
Is there a way around this?

This is unlikely to be the cause of the problem. Most webservers run to fixed time, otherwise the same time will appear twice (when clocks go back) and this can cause all kind of strange things to happen.

The cart summary showing zero is typically caused by changing domains between the cart pages and the rest of the site. What happens then is that most browsers will see the session cookie as being from a third party site and block it.

A quick and easy way to check this is to lower your privacy settings in IE and then see if it still occurs.

It this doesn't help then show us the site and we can usually find the problme fairly quickly.

      Thanks.
I was a little confused by the FAQ on this issue, as this would preclude a user from a different time zone using the site.
I have retried with IE6 security settings at 'Low' with the same result.

Here is the url of the test store:

      http://www.gcrailway.co.uk/acatalog/test/index.html

      Thanks

        Here we go.

Your web pages are on http://www.gcrailway.co.uk/

But your cart, checkout, etc are on http://cgi.www.gcrailway.co.uk/

As far as the browser is concerned these are different domains and it won't release the cookie details.

The cookie is definitely stored as going to the view cart page does show the cart summary, it just doesn't appear on the web pages.

For the cart summary to work, the cart and checkout pages must be on the same domain.

ok your network settings are screwed....that is the cause of the basket display error

it seems you are in test mode ie http://www.gcrailway.co.uk/acatalog/test/acatalog/ this is wrong.

... make sure you are in production mode and re run the network wizard.

I'd expect the catalog url to be

              http://www.yourdomain.co.uk/acatalog/

and the cgibin url to be

              http://www.yourdomain.co.uk/cgi-bin/

use the network wizard to determine the other paths for you,

as I suspect this is wrong too Path From CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory:
              /docs/www.gcrailway.co.uk/acatalog/test/acatalog/

once you have rerun the network wizard, use the export button and export the settings to a txt file , then copy and paste these settings back into your reply in this thread (remove passwords etc) sowe can see your corrected settings

Following information taken from Demon.net shorwoom support, I used the following:
                http://cgi.www.gcrailway.co.uk/cgi-b...crailway.co.uk

                Network wizard then contiued.

                  Now seems to work Ok
So I assume that changing the website URL to http://cgi.www.gcrailway.co.uk
has resulted in the cookies being in the same domain.

I was suprised to find that I could use this URL to view the website.

                  Thanks for your help.

                      Demon Help gives:

To refer to your cgi scripts from within a html document you should use:
                      http://cgi.www.yourdomain.co.uk/cgi-...your-script.pl
If you need to reference your docs directory from your script then use:
                      /docs/www.yourdomain.co.uk/your-file

So If I have the Website URL as www.gcrailway.co.uk and the cgi url as
cgi.www.gcrailway.co.uk etc. are we back to the start, with different domains?

I must admit to being a little confused.

Norman Rouxel has posted the demon settinsg for snowlines here http://community.actinic.com/showthr...056#post100056 (see post number 5).

This looks similar to yours but their website cart summary does seem to work and the cgi-bin appears to be in the correct place.

I suggest you drop Norman a PM and ask him to see if the Demon's settings have been changed for snowlines.

                          David

                          just to hep you out

                          cgi.www.gcrailway.co.uk

is seen as a different website to

                          www.gcrailway.co.uk

and when i say different i mean it could be a completely different name, most cgi-bin folders are under the main domain much like windows where you would have c:/gcrailway and a folder in this c:/gcrailway/cgibin this would mean that cgibin is part of gcrailway

the way you have it would be seen as 2 different directories.

hope i am not going to far back to basics but i got the impression from the post that you where unclear on what was being said.

                          Cheers
                          Darren
