extended info pages not built (8.0.1 beta)

    Hello,
I'm developing a store. I started developing it with v7, then v8 came out and I wanted to upgrade ASAP to base further design around its new features. I did, and of course there were a few problems. The worst (to do with customer groups and product visibility) were fixed with the 8.0.1 beta release. Now I have a new one

It is this: All my extended info popup pages are no longer being 'built' (put into sitehtml) or, as follows, uploaded. I have fiddled with the layout, disabled and renabled extended info for a product, compacted the databases, and generally fiddled to no avail. At the moment I am avoiding broken links by manually uploading previously generated versions from my siteHTML dir, but in the long run this feature just needs to work again..

The only thing I can think of that might have had an effect is my adjustment of the extended info page link in the product layout to a standard link with a target of 'ActPopup', instead of the horrid javascript popup link that is the default (I did this to avoid an IE bug wrt window dimensions and complex css.. purging 'smart' of tables was rather a chore...). This should be ok, right? It certainly works fine when the pages are on the server..

Okay, the link thing seems to have no effect.. changing it back does not help.

      Ash,

Is the site up somewhere so that I can check? I am not able to replicate thsi with v8.0.1.

      Kind regards,

Only extended info I could find were enlarged images. Every one (and I tried about 20) opened for me in Opera 9.0.1, in IE7 RC1 and in Firefox 1.5.0.4

Well that's certainly as it should be since, as I said, I uploaded old versions of the pages manually. The problem is that new versions are not being generated by Actinic.

              Ash,

If this is still happening, please raise a support ticket @ http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm so that we can take a better look at this for you.

Bruce, thanks, but, as I say, I already have an open call with your support team.. number 85220 if that helps..
Apparently the bloke who I spoke to about this when I started the call is now off sick, which is a shame, as this is now rather urgent.

He is in today and I have asked him to give you a call. I think he asked for a snapshot of the site, did you send that over?

                    Kind regards,

I just thought I'd let everyone know that 8.0.2 (unsuprisingly) does not fix this. Also, I never got a call back from support...

Okay, I chased this up and finally have a solution - thank you the chap on the phone and the dev. team.

It follows the same pattern as at least one other workaround I have had to perform - changing the appearance setting for a layout selector to use a fixed layout. In this case I had to change the settings for the Extended Information Links layout, which somehow made Actinic realise that my extended info pages needed to exist..

I would suggest that, if anyone else has a problem with a specific layout element, they try selecting a fixed layout in the appearance settings of the selector; it seems whatever automatic layout selection is supposed to be done by selectors sometimes breaks...
I do hope they fix what is apparently a rather obscure bug.
