    changing themes

Am I missing the point here, I'm upgrading a v7 site, and get constant coding errors - these errors in thems selves are caused by the upgrade, "hTML form close tag is found without open tag" or "nested Form tags" etc etc

I thought if I changed themes, I would get rid of these errors as it should repalce all the "templates"/code.

So why is it eachtime I change theme I get a different set of coding errors. I even got a coding error referring to 2 INNERLAYOUTS

One set of errors refers to the search bulk page, even setting all layouts with the word search in them to factory default doesn't get rid of the error.

What is the easiest way toget a clean V8 to start the design from scratch so I get the product/order info without design

I cured this with a different site, by going through the Library, layouts and resetting every layout to factory default, this is very tedious... as there are many layouts with out factory defaults and then you have to click several times to get rid of the error message

I admitted defeat on the coding errors on my current upgrade, and worked through the library|layouts reverted all of them to factory defaults, all is now well.

Actinic quality control should work through this list and remove the menu option to revert to factory default when there isn't one to default to. And remove the error box that comes up 7 times on each factory default that doesn't exsist.

The need for a clean "text only import" has been discussed before and has to be a good idea - especially as v8 is a totally different beast to v6 / v7 - anything to ease the transition for exisiting users

This has totally hacked me off this morning.... as you may have been able to deduce from the frustration within the post.

This is only stage one of the operation.

        Stage1 upgrade from 7 to 8
Stage2 take a current v8 and import the hierarcical import into above new v8 (hence merging 2 sites into 1)
Stage3 take an import file from a site with a different cart and import into v8 (hence 3 sites are now one)

        Stage4 apply new design!

What odds you do think i can get from Ladbrooks - it may be worth placing a bet to offset developement costs

            Hi,

I'm sorry that this is causing you so much grief Jo. I've checked with development and it has been scheduled to have an option to use a clean v8 theme for an upgraded site in v8.0.2.

Actinic quality control should work through this list and remove the menu option to revert to factory default when there isn't one to default to
Hmm, on my software, if I right-click on a layout that is a custom one the 'revert to factory default' is greyed out. Is that what you meant?

Hi Tracey - can you elucidate how clean will the install be? Is this for upgrades from v7 to v8.

                Phew that's good news.

after I converted my site i was left with a load of coding errors, not cured by changing themes, so I went to Library, Layouts, and right clicked on every layout withthe intention of using "revert to factory settings". Quite a tedious procedure, but effective, it works to get rid of coding errors.

As I worked through the list of layouts, "Revert to Factory settings" was present (not greyed out) but sometimes I got a dialog box saying this layout does not have a factory layout to default to - OK. On hitting Ok I had to repeat the click about 7 times for the same layout before the message went.

On testing this doesn't seem to happen with the default site, but it does with my upgraded site. Its an irritation (and yesterday I was irritated ) more than anything

I haven't started on stage 2 of this site yet - so stand by

Further to this, in my site1 folder for my 7 to 8 upgrade I've got all the old ACT_ templates, can i delete these?

                  Hi Jont,

can you elucidate how clean will the install be?
Not at the moment. I think it should work as follows:

                  1. allow people to choose which theme they want to use
                  2. set a default product layout to all products (to get rid of any custom layouts)
                  3. set a default section layout to all sections
                  4. set the default overall layouts
                  5. revert to the default actinic.css stylesheet

I think this should do it but let me know if you have any further suggestions let me know and then I can put them to the development team

I'm also going to suggest having a button to revert all layouts to factory defaults in one go (that one's for you Jo).

Is this for upgrades from v7 to v8.
Yes, but I would also hope it would work for v6 upgrades too - I'd have to check that out. The code isn't written yet for this so I'm not sure exactly how it will work. Maybe with your suggestions we can influence this.

I tried this out on a site I got from a customer (not upgraded though). I will test this out and see what happens.

                      Hi Jo,

I've just tested it out on an upgraded site with lots of custom layouts in there and each time the 'revert to factory defaults' option was greyed out for those layouts. What is the version of Actinic that you have (Help | About....) - I'm using v8.0.1.

Thanks Tracey - having the option to blitz everything and get back to a level playing field will be most welcomed, not only for upgraded sites but also for sites started in v8 and the user making radical changes to the code and getting into a mess. A global reset will be a life saver.

resetting the classes back to default can be missed out though as left_navigation_bar_css_theme_executive_second_row_down_in_green would take a Cray super-computer to reset

                              Excellent! Thanks for that Tracey...

I was using 8.0.0, so I'll take a look again in a later version.

I'm sticking with 8.00 at the mo (hadn't realised I missed 8.01 beta), I'll move to 8.02 later this week
