    Import v7 orders

Im currently upgrading our site to v8 and making numerous changes to the design etc making use of some of the new features. The problem with this is it makes the upgrading procedure a fairly lengthy process and means that I cannot upgrade the site in say a morning as I have done with previous versions.

Whilst this is not a problem for actually upgrading the site, it is a problem for keeping the orders up to date as, as far as i can see, there is no way to import only orders from v7 into the v8 database.

So, the question is, is there any way to import the orders from v7 into v8? Perhaps by writing some sort of Access update query?

I think what you do is develop your new site in V8.1 offlineand when you are happy take a snapshot

Then upgrade your v7 site to v8.01

Then inport the new site snapshot without using the import orders feature

Havn't tried it yet myself though

      Chris,

Thanks for that. Unfortunately this wont work if there has been any database changes to the v8 site, or if you have changed any of the layouts. For instance, I have now changed from 3 main layouts to just one for all 3 sections!

I've got a similar problem. I think the only way round it is to upgrade the site, upload the v8 site to the server, so that the site is functioning and able to download orders, then make the changes to the design over a period of time.

It would be really helpful if future upgrades offered the facility to import orders only from a previous version.

          Brian,

It really should be fairly simple, Im sure that importing the correct v7 tables into the v8 database and then marrying them up to the correct v8 tables/fields would work.

Just need someone to work out how to do it!!!!

What the Designer version of v8 offers is the ability to save ONLY the theme to a snapshot.

This means you could continue to run the site in v7 while you design in v8, and when you are happy with the v8 design, send a snapshot to a designer and ask them to return you the saved theme.

You could then upgrade your live v7 site and finally select and import your custom theme.

              Bill,

Yeah I had thought of that but surely that won't take into account any changes to which layout you are using for a particular section/product etc?
