Silly Question - Product Per Page

    Hi,

I am not using this at the moment and want to see what I can do with it. How do I do it!! I can not find a check box or option and searching the help pages come up with nothing.

    Instructions please!

    Thanks,
    Paul.

you have to move all your products so that each product is in a section on its own

thanks jo. I understand now and will go off an try it. Just a quickie - I have seen sites where the products are listed in grids (i.e. small image, price and name) and the customer clicks on that. The link takes them to the full page per item bit.

How do people do that grid? Are products duplicated in the section above the individual pages and then linked somehow?

      Thanks,
      Paul.

          Paul,

Have a look at http://www.quality-titanium.co.uk/ac...-earrings.html Here I modified the layout page for the main product when you click "view details"

The thumbnails are duplicate products with a new layout with some of the standard netquotes removed.

See pages 19 & 24 in the advanced user (V7) manual if this is what you want to achieve.

This was done with V7 but see no reason why the same can't be done in V8
          Regards

          Jason

This is complicated, so bare with me!

I have been testing this product per page lark and need some help. I am having a bit of trouble with the way I layout my products.

My original product is located in a section by brand. For example, silver eternity ring is located in : Brands > Jux Jewellery > Rings. This is a multiple product per page layout and fine for my needs.

I then create a duplicate and copy it into another sub section, in this case, Jewellery > Rings > Silver Rings > Silver Eternity Ring, which is a product per page layout and also fine.

The final part of the jigsaw is the section "Silver Rings" which I need to put another duplicate into so that I can create the 'grid' of rings that the customer sees before selecting the product.

So, we have the original product and two duplicates:

Original: Brands > Jux Jewellery > Rings
Copy 1: Jewellery > Rings > Silver Rings
Copy 2: Jewellery > Rings > Silver Rings > Silver Eternity Ring

I am using a search through the CGI-bin on the product reference in the layout on the grid page, but of course this is linking to the main product in the brands section as part of the multiple page per product scheme. Any idea how I could get to where I am trying to go? (i.e. the silver eternity page).

I really wanted the main product in the brands so I can track the products easier and make changes/updates in a simpler way and would rather not have the original product in the Silver Eternity Ring page.

            hope that makes sense!

            Thanks,
            Paul.

I have been playing with V8 and also wished to acheive this. What I did was use the "extended info" tab on the product and in the layout set it to "includes checkout button" and set it to open in the same window.

After that I just copied over the code from the main store index into the "popup" window (that does not pop up now remember) and it seems to work a treat so far.

This sounds exactly like the sort of thing I am trying to acheive. Are you saying that you copied the Act_primary.html code into the Popup_window code.html?? (or whatever the associated file name would be)

Can you please explain your method a bit more - thanks

                  No Problem:

                  Design --> Design Library

Scroll down until you find "Extended Info Layout", expand that, highlight "Includes add to cart button". Right Click and choose "Edit".

Maximise this window and click the button to toggle to advanced view, select all this code and paste it into a new notepad file to keep it safe.

Back in the main program, go to design view and highlight the top-most layout in the design tree (mine is called Works Best with Executive) then you can see you "outer layer" code in the layout code window. Select all and copy.

                  Design --> Design Library

Scroll down until you find "Extended Info Layout", expand that, highlight "Includes add to cart button". Right Click and choose "Edit".

Maximise this window and click the button to toggle to advanced view, select all this code and hit delete. Paste in the code you copied (the "Outer Layer"), toggle to basic view, scroll down and find the line "InnerLayer" - delete this, toggle back to advanced view, go to notepad, select all, copy and finally paste this back into where you just deleted "InnerLayer" from - job done.

Now just go to your online store in the content tree (green icon) and on the extended info tab set the layout to "includes add to cart" and the type of page to "Opens in same Window"

                      Mr DBurrows - a question

Where would I nick the "Breadcrumb Trail" from to include this above the details displayed, as in a normal page??

And would it go in the second Body Tag of our altered page before the section of code that starts with

                      <form method="post" action="<actinic:variable name="OnlineScriptURL" value="Shopping Cart Script URL" />">

                      Cheers for any thoughts

Grant - if you have a second <BODY tag then you have a major problem. There can only be one opening body tag and one closing body tag in any html page.

True. But by following DBurrows example above, in copying all the code from the Extended info Layout with Add to Cart button, into the Outer layout, this is the result you get.

                          Seems to work ok

I will remove the second Head bit etc and see if it still works.

Well, I removed the extra Head/Body tags etc and it still works fine, so that is OK.

Still having issues trying to get the Breadcrumb trail in.

I have copied the code snipits from the main section page and pasted them in the "includes Add to card button" code, but all I am gettin when you view the extended information is the Main category, rather than the product as well.

                            And it aint a link.

The code I am inserting is...

                            <div align="center"><span class="actxsmall"><actinic:variable name="ParentSectionLinkItem" value="Standard Parent Section Link" if="%3cactinic%3avariable%20name%3d%22IsParentSectionLinkShown%22%20%2f%3e" />
                            <actinic:variable name="ParentSectionLinkItem" value="Standard This Section Name" if="%3cactinic%3avariable%20name%3d%22IsThisSectionNameShown%22%20%2f%3e"/></span></div>

Any ideas why the second bit is not displaying and why it s not an actual link??

                            Cheers

Grant - this won't work becaause technically the product is still in the main section, even though it is appearing on it's own individual page.

You need to create a brand new 'Parent Section List' layout for your extended info pages. To do this, go to 'Design | Library | Layouts' and expand the 'Parent Section Lists' group. Right-click on one of those layouts and select 'New Layout'.

Then double-click on your new list and replace the contents of the list with just the following code:

                              <actinic:variable name="ParentSectionLinkItem" />

Then edit the list layout settings (orange link at the top of the layout code) and use the 'End of List' field to include the 'ProductName' variable at the end of the list.
