    Hi Lee

As Mike says, turning off the preview is an option, but not an ideal one. How many products do you have in each of your sections? Also, how much RAM do you have on your PC? This just helps us to get an idea of what might be causing your issues.

I wasn't having any major problems with slowness until I started to add components, attributes and choices.

I have only one product in my store at present but it has 15 different components. It currently takes about 20 - 30seconds to enter a new choice.

I'm using an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ with 512MB DDR RAM

I would have thought that should be plenty to run this software adequately.

I turned off Page Preview and now it won't do anything - just hangs for eternity! Oh well, back to the dole queue!

I would encourage you to register an email support request at http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm as it may be there is something that can be done to speed up the performance of your site. Obviously there is a problem here, and your PC spec seems OK, so there must be somethig odd going on.

I have found that my system gets really slow when i have java script in a layout. If this script is a page tracker for google or something it runs every page refresh / save.

Perhaps the design window and page preview could be changed so it does not run scripts.

Other peoples thought on this would be appreciated.

I'm sure I have seen code posted on the forum that details a block if condition to disable the tracker javascript on preview pages.

Maybe Chris D can move that one into the AUG sticky thread too?

Progress since I started this thread...

Since initially importing my v7 snapshot into v8 and the subsequent upgrades to 8.02 and 8.03, I have found that even with more content 8.03 is much faster than 8.01. 8.03 is still slower than v7, but not to an unacceptable degree... I suppose it should be expected, since more is going on. However, the light at the end of the tunnel is that I'm told 8.04 will address more performance issues, so that is something to look forward to!

I have noticed and reported that changes to product description etc. are slower when done on the design tab, so I've been switching to the content tab to di things like that.

                  Yep

Highlight the code you want to hide and then click the 'Insert Block' button (green 'C' with a '+') The expression you need to use is:

                  <actinic:variable name="IsPreviewMode" /> == FALSE

                        System settings

                        Hi chris,

We have between 1(min) and 20(max) products per section. Around 7000 products in total.

System is a Pentium 4 2.93Ghz with 1GB of RAM

It seems any time you change a setting or cut something it re-loads the whole database into the memory, thus making it very slow

                          Hi Lee

It certainly sounds like your store should be performing a lot better than it is. Can I encourage you to register an email support query via http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm - the team may be able to figure out what is affecting performance.

                            Hi There,

Wondering if there is an update on when lates V8 version is out addressing the slowness issue? My boss spoke to someone last week who said it was imminent and 50% faster?

8.0.3 had some imrovements, and 8.0.4 will make some further ones. That will only be a short time away - we are just carrying out internal testing at the moment. When the beta's out, it will be announced on here.
