Design tab not working

I also had this problem on a site that i was designing (which took hours to solve) In the end all it was a piece of javascript in the website that was linked to a Marquee. When i removed the Javascript i could change things in the design tab but before that i could go into the design tab but just could not change e.g. the colour of the title.

This is still a problem though and had to remove the javascript fully out of the site when i wanted that function.

That snapshot that was causing the problem, please could you email it to me on communityadmin [@] actinic.co.uk, so I can take a look into it. It would be useful to have something that reproduces it.

Hi Jon, I have looked into the snapshot with a fellow developer and seen that there seems to be a key corrupted in the registry for v8.

If you was to import that snapshot again, then close down Actinic, please go into "Start | Run", and type in "Regedit.exe".

Now please go to the following:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Actinic\Catalog8\Sites\Site1\DockingPaneLayouts

Highlight "DesignTabLayout" and delete this key please.

Once you have done this, open Actinic v8, and it will regenerate this key and design should appear.

For everyone else, who are having the blank issue on content, please do the same, but Highlight "ContentTabLayout" and delete this key please, as well as the "DesignTabLayout"

Please could the remaining people try this.

Hi all,

My page / design preview failed tonight for me also. I'm using V.02.

The Reg fix isn't working for me.

Update : I've uninstalled Actinic and then re-installed it and the page / design preview is now back. Hopefully this won't happen again.

On this desktop machine the design tab is working fine (yet to test on laptop) however I have noticed that whenever I do a snapshot import two things are not working correctly:

1. Page/sections in actinic are not updating correctly - deleting the two registries fixed this.

2. Files within the site1 folder which are not standard with actinic are not being imported. - EG custom design registered with actinic using dreamweaver, referenced images and css layout. However only the .css file is being imported and none of the other design elements.

Is this due to the files being within a custom design so actinic doesn't know that these files need to be part of the site1 folder? Hence must the files have to actually be referenced in actinic for actinic to include them in a snapshot, for example a product image within a product images folder?

Yes it is possible. One thing I would say is the images for the design of the website, put them in "Site1", or your site folder, so when in Dreamweaver you put the image tag as <img src="image1.jpg"> it is looking into the "Site1" folder

I've designed it as you suggested all files images etc in the site1 folder and the html code is as you suggest, but like I say they are not being included in the snapshot...

Design tab is BLANK AGAIN!!!

OH NO!!

I thought this was working, I tried the registry edit (removing ContentTabLayout and DesignTabLayout) and initially this worked, however, when I tried running Actinic the following day the "Design" tab is now blank again!

Please help, I am desperate for this to be resolved as I cannot use the software at the moment at all!!!!

Hi Alex,

Oh dear, On the next day, did you import the snapshot, one thing to remember is when you import the snapshot, you also import the registry settings from that snapshot. Please could you advise?

None of the suggestions have worked

I have just purchased Actinic V8 Business and my design tab, like many other people's, is not working. I have gone through all the suggestions within this thread and nothing has worked.

Considering the cost of the software, I am shocked to be having this problem.

Are there any new suggestions regarding this problem?

Can you explain this snapshot that has been mentioned? Bearing in mind I am 1 hour new to Actinic.

Any help will be appreciated.

Design Tab Not Working

I am no expert and forgive me if I am being a little simplistic about this but are you saying that when you click on the Design tab, the screen in blank? If so, go to the 'Window' option in the top tool bar, then if there are no 'ticks' next to any of the options listed, this is why your screen is blank, by ticking some opitons such as 'Contents tree' or 'Design Tree' things should appear.

There is also an option to Restore Initial View Layout which will switch the layout to the default ie everything showing.

The problem is when in the design tab it is blank and clicking any menu causes actinic to crash... This is why clicking the window menu is not an option. However the reg fix which nadeem posted does seem to work, at least for some people.

Easiest thing to do:

Import your snapshot, do the reg fix nadeem posted, then export a snapshot for future use. Even if your design tab does not work right from install then close actinic, reopen actinic, stay in the content tab and do a snapshot of the default store. Then follow instructions instructions above.
