Constant Intrusion Attempts whilst Uploading Site

Whenever I choose to update my website online, I get a barrage of intrusion attempt warnings from my Virus software (Norton).
Approximately 6 of these each time, consisting of various Trojan attempts.

    Is this normal?

Isnt very reasurring to think that whenever I upload files to my host, it may be opening a great big door with a "welcome viruses" sign above it.

Sounds like Norton is reading your FTP verification packets from the server as intrusion attempts - AVG does not make this sort of mistake.

To be 100% sure, you would need to examine the packets NIS is complaining about (Needs packet sniffer software and enough knowledge to interpret the contents) - OR - uninstall Norton, install working AV software and see if the warnings continue.

I'd lay heavy odds NIS is getting it wrong.

We get this on some machines where Norton says that trojans are trying to get in, which is mostly on the home page upload/confirmation and when the merge request is done.

Under v8, where Norton taught itself as we first used it, it does not throw up any warnings and no longer has that issue, but as it has not or needs reteaching that v7 and so on is safe, it sometimes does it... So, more a missunderstanding than a real attack would say, and Actinic is not openning up any more ports in your machine than is already existing, as it uses the usual 80 and 21 for those elments, and then the passive ftp ports if you have enabled that option.
