Has any one else actually tried to edit an actinic template in Dreameaver with actinic open?

We have just got actinic 8, an I upgraded it to version 8.0.2 and still find that the design section is a little bit crummy to say the lest, so I resorted to opening and editing the pages in dreameaver and with I saved them I found that actinic had not updated them at least with dreamwaver if you make any changes to open pages in some thing lease EG visual interdev it has the decency to offer to reload the page.

    Where actinic dose not.

I was used to having to refresh in version 7 to sea any changes I had made but version 8 dose not even seam to do this.

I think the need to have a bit of a rethink about the design pannel. I agree with other posting on here that is seams a little buggy.

If I have read sll the guides and related threads correctly, the first thing you have to do after opening a built in theme with Dreamweaver is 'register' it as a Custom theme using the "Actinic" DW menu choice.

Once it is registered, then DW and Actinic will both be aware of changes occassioned by the other application.

I do it daily and have no problems. As Bill says you need to ensure that you have registered the design with Actinic.

I've also found no problems once the Dreamweaver design is registered in Actinic.

            Hi

Registering a design with actinic from dreamweaver offers up no issues here nor does the design work required.

Just work on your 'outer layout' in dreamweaver and insert your desired variables where you want them.

Once you have done this, edit the variables WITHIN dreamweaver making sure you have addressed the css wrapping. The inner layout can be managed in the same way within Actinic.

We find this method is the most effective way of using both DW and Actinic and I have a sneaky feeling it was the way it was intended.

Now as for importing a page design into DW from Actinic (core layout not custom), thats another baby all together.

            Kind Regards

When you have inserted your variables within DW there is a function to check the pages. Is that what you are referring to?

In DW go to Actinic | Check Variables

                    Hi Darren

As far as I am aware, the check action will look for the variables you 'could have used'

As for the java I am pretty certain that is a manual check I am afraid.

Is the check action auto or do I have to do some thing in actinic to set it up, that what I have been trying to get at?

DW will check for the variables auto as long as the Act ext are installed (as you are designing/registering they must be )

I just tryed editing the Act_PDAndBasket.html and the changes have not show up in actinic!

It past of the standard template so why are the changes not showing up!

The main reason I posted this is

1: Changes I have made are not showing up
2: We have a major problem with our templates, it split in to a table 3 colums, in a number of rows the 1st and 3rd colums are showing at the bottom under the 2nd colum, so I am trying to get to the bottom of what going on, so I am tweeking the HTML in DW but actinic not reflecting the chaanges...

SO if I have to register some thing how do I do that, the extention for DW is installed...

                          Am I just been stupped!!!

If you have designed your page in Dreamweaver and registered it with Actinic, any further alterations are apparent within Actinic the second you save them in Dreamweaver. Clicking on any variable in the design and previewing from Dreamweaver automatically previews them in your browser, via the Actinic interface.

SO if I have to register some thing how do I do that, the extention for DW is installed...
When you have completed your design page in Dreamweaver, just click on th heading Actinic and Register with Actinic. Dreamweaver will acknowledge when the design is registered. Plain sailing thereafter!!

Sounds like you are trying to edit the site in the same way as we used to do with V7. V8 does not have templates it uses an outer and inner layout.

The outer layout (template) is designed in DW and the inner layout is added to it, once this is done you then register the design with Actinic.

Once the design is in Actinic you can change the inner layer within the design view of Actinic.
