    SSL secure and non-secure items

I have defined the site as SSL.
When linking to pages i get the message your page contains secure and non-secure items.
The only items on the page are generated by Actinic.
I notice that the menu (top RHS) has a mixture of both secure and non-secure pages - Search is an example of a non-secure link.
Is this what is causing the error message?
If I scan the html there are no embedded http:// links only https:// hence wondering about the menu

Take a look http://www.streetleatherwear.co.uk and click on a products link...

same problem for up a level, terms & conds links (i.e. not secure pages)

Why have you put the whole site under SSL - this may block the search engines from indexing the pages?

I know it is but as you seem in doubt why not take a look at www.inspiralstairs.co.uk where I use the same method with no problem.
Search Google for inspiralstairs and you will see that it displays each page on the site no problem.

google.co.uk select "the web" (not uk pages) keyword inspiralstairs

sorry it's the .com you'll find

still looking for an answer to the original post however...

The search term returns one page, the index and no others. This is possibly due to your homepage not being hosted on SSL. Your other pages are indeed on SSL with plus46.safe-order.net and they are giving the same secure/insecure message when I view each page.

The server that your site is hosted on is seen using sitelus46.safe-order.net where it is mixed with a very interesting bunch of other sites pages. They look mostly from the US so I assume the server is there as well.

Others may have different views on the subject but I still suggest that there is no practical reason for having the whole site on SSL as it can cause problems. I will bow out now and let someone else solve your problem.

                  I bow to your interest...
I have investigated the inspiralstairs.com non-secure message and discovered that this was due to the Google Adwords link I recently added. I have only had the error on the section page following the homepage.
If you can be bothered I would be interested to know if you are still getting the non-secure message. (You'll probably need to refresh the first time you try it). It only appeared for me on that one page.

The reason for the whole site being SSL is so that people can see the Gold Key when they visit. In my experience many people have learned that this indicates that the site is safe! An SSL certificate would be nice too but it costs extra!

The site is not hosted on an SSL server, merely the pages are served via an SSL server. I understand that this is not the most efficient but again my experience is that this does not impact performance hugely if at all.

Yes it is USA hosted which leads to problems with Google not including it in its UK Pages selection which is annoying, particularly as it also has a .co.uk address.

meanwhile back at streetleather.co.uk the original problem seems to have disappeared - all links are as they should be...

All the links now go through the SSL server.
The only thing I can think of was that earlier pages were still cached!! hmmm
sure I did a refresh! Maybe it was the browser, I know I've closed it and restarted it since... one to remember!

My turn to bow out for now... thanks for your help, Nigel

Its showing for me on every page on the site as it goes through https://www1.securesiteserver.co.uk

Clicking on any product or section link I am receiving the following error:

"The requested URL /streetleather/cgi-bin/ss000000.pl was not found on this server."

Clicking on the products links (top right) only gave me an image of a remote controlled car in the top left hand corner of the page!!

Like Malcolm I would doubt the usefulness hosting on or via a secure server. Your claims that people like to see the golden padlock are fine but as the site bounces you away from your site to another location AND the certificate is not even issued to Street Leather this is surely causing more trouble than it is worth. A simple graphic in the side bar explaining it is secure or a link to your T&C would overcome this issue.

As I was unable to get past your homepage I was unable to tell what methods of payment you are accepting - if PROTX, SecPay etc these have their own padlock and secure servers with the certificates actually issued to them. Most users are happy to see the padlock during the checkout phase for sensitive data but not whilst simply browsing the site.

                      Just my 2p worth

                          secure server fault

so much for the secure server... it's broken at the moment hence the 404 and other strange manifestations... you could argue that the site is very secure at the moment!

Next stage to secure the site would be to unplug it from the network and place it into the boot of the car ... let them there h4ck3rs try their worst

I've taken an alternative secure step - updated my shipping tables and corrupted the database into the bargain. Now I can't load the database...
