    tableistic themes vs css

v8 seems to have included a couple of new themes css based, is this the way forward for a new site project. is the css based theme capable of exploiting more of the features in v8 and is this geared toward seo.

i am faceing a new learnig curve with css if this is not nessassary i will avoid there is enough to learn in v8..

You don't have to use CSS with V8. CSS is the way the web is going but you don't have to use all the features of V8. There's enough to learn with V8 without getting bogged down in CSS if you don't already know it.

CSS may be better for seo because you have less formatting html gook on your webpage and so the 'real' content may be easier to find.

Thats not really the point of CSS. Its more of a way to remove the colours and positioning etc from your html document to an external document. This has a few good points about it, firstly the html document is smaller (sometimes), secondly design and layout is easily duplicated throughout your site and thirdly it makes search engines read your page a bit easier (?) and finally its the new standard so should be used when you feel up to it.

Some people suggest google etal look to see if you are using CSS and give you a higher ranking as this is the standard in web design. That said, I don't think it does, but it is the new standard so starting a new site is the best time to learn...

why not spend 1 hour messing around and see what happens, if you don't like it leave it out and learn it another time. At the moment I don't think it makes too much difference.
