    Program speed

I am having problems with the speed that the program (V8.0.2) is running at to the point where it is really unusable. When I press apply changes it is taking over 50 seconds to refresh. The uploads are taking hours.

I upgraded from V7 only a couple of weeks ago and as yet made only minor changes so I don't think it is any thing I've done.

I have looked thru' the FAQ's and the threads and done everything suggested -
    compact databases
checked that "tracing" in ODBC is off

has anybody have any suggestions before I revert to version 7?

    thanks in frustration

    Hi Hugh

A few customers have reported issues with slow performance with version 8. Could I ask you to let me know the following:
    • How much RAM you have on your PC
    • The speed of your processor
    • Whether you are using an external design created in Dreamweaver for your store design
    • Finally, what version of Actinic you are using
Version 8.0.3, due very shortly, will address some of these concerns, but if you let me know the answers to the points above, I'll see whether there are any other ways to help out.

      Hi Chris,

      Thanks for that.

Here are the answers to your questions:
      • How much RAM you have on your PC?
        • 523,760kb which having monitored the usage appears to be enough.
      • The speed of your processor
        • 1.5GHz again I have been monitoring this and I am getting readings of 100% usage, which I have not seen when using my other programs.
      • Whether you are using an external design created in Dreamweaver for your store design
        • I don't have Dreamweaver. I am using "Executive" theme, but the program says I am using " Uses advanced settings", but I have not set any advnced seetings I am aware of however the checkout area appears to have retained settings from the previous theme I used in version 7 - "Best Seller"
      • Finally, what version of Actinic you are using
        • The version number is 8.0.2.0.0.0.GJUA

Many thanks for your detailed feedback. Very useful.

To revert the theme to not being 'Advanced' you can just select 'Execuitive' in 'Design | Themes'. That will sort your checkout out.

You might also want to try the 8.0.3 beta version (just been announced) as there are some fixes in there to speed things up a bit.

I've found Actinic slow when I have about 200 products in a section. How many do you have?

          Thanks Chris,

I will have a go at sorting the design out as you say.

I do have a section with, I am guessing, with well over 200 items in it. Will try splitting it up. The total site has some 1500 items and growing.

I have downloaded a copy of 8.0.3 beta and will have a go with it.

Sections with a large number of products do take a long time to render in the preview pane. Some people prefer to actually close the preview pane - and this often results in an improvement in performance.

              Program speed

Hi we are also experiencing a slow running V8

How much RAM you have on your PC - 512mb of RAM

              The speed of your processor
              1.60GHz

Whether you are using an external design created in Dreamweaver for your store design - No

Finally, what version of Actinic you are using - 8.0.2.0.0.0.GJUA

We loaded part of our site to the test site yesterday, and since then, the program crashes for no apparent reason, today, i have been working on amending some products (un ticking the 'also bought' box for a section of products - worked fine for over an hour, then just crashed. Took another 5 minutes to load back up, clicked on a product and it crashed with out anything being done to it. We have purged, and compacted the database.
Now it happens a lot when you go to cut and paste - you cut, then it crashes and when it opens back up the item has been deleted and no item available to be pasted - just have to drag items around now... but sometimes it crashes if you just highlight a product without doing anything to it when it has just loaded up.

                Hi Graham

I'm a bit at a loss to know what to suggest via the community. You have done all the sensible things. The only other thing I could suggest is to uninstall and re-install.

I think someone in support needs to take a look at your snapshot to figure out what has happened. You can register an email support question at http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm
