Removing the "Actalog" in URL - PLEASE HELP!

    Hi all,

Been pulling my hair out all morning on this.

I am trying to accomplish two main things, 1) to remove the reference to "acatalog" within my website and 2) have my catalog home page as the landing page for the site.

With regards to the second issue, I have previously been doing this via a .htaccess file and that has worked fine - but will I still require this if I remove the "acatalog" directory???

    Back to point 1!

I have been reading the advice given on the following link:

    http://community.actinic.com/showthr...oto=nextnewest

Firstly I contacted my hosts (namesco) to see if they could treat the /acatalog directory as my 'root' but they have told me this is not possible.

So this morning, I have gone through the ActinicCatalog.mdb file (specifically the setup2 table) and removed the references of "acatlog" where I could find them ("CGI to webpath", "FTP to webpath", "SLastUploadDir" and "SCatalogURL").

This seemed to work at first but then I realised that the links to checkout were not functioning - which I think was because the link to the CGI-BIN was invalid, having tried to correct this I seem to have ended up back at the beginning, with acatalog back in place etc!!!

Can anyone possibly tell me exactly what I need to do to remove the "acatalog" directory from the URL? Is there something I need to change in the settings within Actinic itself??

    And so my essay finishes....

Many many thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction!

    Greg.

    Hi Greg

Your first query regarding the acatalog file is able to be done, but is NOT a recommended move due to many reasons that you can find via the forum search. It will require mdb work and can be undone with a fresh upload in error.

Regarding the home page, in the content tree, highlight your home page and select the box that states 'use as website homepage'

      Hi Daren,

Thanks for the reply - to be honest it's something I am keen to remove as I feel it looks extremely unprofessional to be honest.

It wouldn't be so much a problem if it was a changeable name, but I'd rather not have any markers, text etc to highlight that the site has been generated through Actinic.

      Thanks,

      Greg.

        No worries Greg

I appreciate your thoughts and it is one that has been mentioned as a 'potential' for the guys at Act to put a toggle within admin in future versions (not sure how it is placed in the list of priorities though)

One other view could be that it is a sign you are using a market leading solution and give potential clients confident to proceed (those who are aware of it at any rate). This comment was made a couple of days ago by Chris and I think it stands up pretty well...

        Good luck

As I sort of mentioned above, (as an after thought this is of course)

You can remove it from areas of the database and amend your network config and it will become what you wish ie www.yourdomain.tld/your_shop_name (simplified process this is not a directive)

If you are the only one that manages your store you could manage this as you have to be aware of every refresh, your settings need to be observed carefully.

If you have MS Access this can be done with no messing about with webserver settings.

Firstly setup your network settings as you would normally but ensure where it says address of catalog make sure its www.yoururl.com and not www.yoururl.com/acatalog

Path from CGI-BIN to acatalog dir is ../acatalog -- dont worry about that. Close actinic. In the FTP section, the path from CGI to Acatalog is left blank.

Go into your site1 folder and open locate the file ActinicCatalog.mdb - open this with MS Access.
Locate the table called "setup2" and open that.

Scroll along to the "CGI to Web" column and change the data from ../acatalog/ to just ../ close MS Access.

Log into your webspace FTP and delete the acatalog folder, then go into the CGI-BIN folder and delete the contents of that. Log off, close FTP program.

Fire up Actinic and go to web, refresh website. Wait for it to finish and test your store..

One final note, you cannot go back into the network settings in Actinic now, if you do then you will have to repeat the database edit part of this guide.

No mention of webserver settings just be careful with your NETWORK SETTINGS
