I wanted to thank Actinic for puting the 'default layout' option into the upgrade path with V8.0.3. This now gives me a clean layout when I upgrade my V6 site so at least I know I'm starting from a clean slate (but keeping my previous content and orders).
Sadly it doesn't fix my problem with external linking. It may even have made my worst case scenario worse as it now throws up a database error on importing the data. I'll report more on this when I get chance to investigate but right now I have to go and do some other stuff.
But thanks again for the option of using a default layout. This is a huge improvement.
