MySQL to V8

Thanks all, that's more or less sold me on the idea of linking to MySQL.

My sites are similar in operation to Chris's where we've got a number of front ends operating on seperate domains, but have many shared products between them (which causes me no end of headaches when dealing with price changes, etc!).

How will Actinic behave if product details are modified on the MySQL database? Will these changes be overwritten when Actinic does it's update/download orders?

Actinic will refresh the product data before an upload, printing or if you refresh from within Actinic (f5), it will also refresh when you view product details.

We have a little product that is about to be released that make linking several databases together easier, it is called Stock link, it uses access and external linking to do this. You use Actinic to maintain and add products. If anyone is interested in using this, email me and you can have a look at the beta version.

You can't link to an Actinic database, but if you want to link several databases to the same external databases you can, and it should just work.

As we are using Multi User and have two people using the system would this cause a conflict?

We use a bespoke stock control/invoicing/purchasing/etc software that we want to integrate into Actinic, so any orders, etc are automatically entered into our offline system.

The problem we've got is that the sales team will be using Actinic to update product prices/descriptions/etc via Actinic Catalog and the only cost-effective way I could think of integrating to our other system was via a MySQL DB that did the middle-man exchange.

You will have to transfer the products you create in Actinic into your external My SQL database, Actinic will link to an external database and update existing products but it won't create new products in the external database (so in other works, it still uses access but links some of the product data to a table elsewhere).

You should be fine, the only limitation on multiuser is that you can't link to excel because only one person can have an excel spreadsheet open at one time.

With regard to whether to wait or not, I would trial it and see if it causes you any speed problems. It is easy to set up and just as easy to switch off again.
