Hosting advice?

Hi there,

I am evaluating v8 and need some advice regarding hosting. It would be helpful to know what options others are using.

Advantages of Linux over Windows or viceversa?

Is everyone hosting with Actinic or with other providers?

Any particular points to watch out for?

Hey Pedro,

Don't use windows - use Unix servers. I have had problems with Windows servers with Actinic in the past. This forum is heavily populated by lots of people who supply various Actinic services - including Actinic Hosting - i am sure they will be in touch when they see your post. Actually, i sometimes wonder how many actual regular punters there are on here compared to the amount of Developers / Actinic Hosters / Partners / Affiliates etc etc. Your in very safe and protective hands....

People here host with a wide range of hosts. There are lots of posts from people asking for advice, who to choose who is best etc etc. Its probably best to run though a few of these posts so you can draw up a short list.

Then come back and ask more definate Qs

Some hosts are cheap and more focussed on home sites, some offer customer support with actinic knowledge, some with throttle bandwidth even when they say it is unlimited, some throttle processing time allowed to scripts, some overload servers and so on.

2 things to bear in mind initially - its better to go Unix/linux (unless you need windows for other features such as asp) and host in the UK if your customer base is UK.

Yep Pedro - I'm yer man - If ya ever want to get into the dark side of the world of 'off the shelf shopping carts' you let me know........ the world of 'off the shelf carts' is a cruel and unforgiving place though...... i've been there dude......think you can hack it? There may be no coming back though, so if yer not packin some good ammo - don't **** with the cart men.......ok?
