    Quick Search failing

    Hello,

I get the following error message when completing a quick search

error opening ....../acatalog/customsearch.fil (no such file or directory). I then get bounced back after a few seconds to the home page.

I'm using an Actinic standard template and the rest of the site seems to be working well. I'm running Business 8.0.2 with IE7

I'm not aware of any settings around the search facility ?

Could it be IE7 related ??

I must admit I don't test the search facility on my own site, so I don't really know how long the problem's been there.
    Thanks

All fil files are autogenerated therefore the first thing I would do is a site refresh to see if the re-generates it.

Re: Search / Quick Search failing

      Hello Jo,

Your suggestion makes no difference. I regenerated the whole site and it successfully uploaded. Whenever I go into search or Quicksearch and type a simple search word in I get an 'customsearch.fil' error message and bounced back ?

Most bizarre as everything seems ok on the site.

Any further thoughts ? Directory protection rights ? config settings ??
      Thanks

Re: Search / Quick Search failing

          Hello,

I presume by 'purge' you are referring to the purge option under 'Housekeeping ?' I ran this for 'Purge - content' and I also ran the option to check for coding errors (all fine - I have not customised any code anyway). I then refreshed the website.

It reloaded all files and said that it was completed successfully, but still I have the same search error. /acatalog/customsearch.fill...file or directory missing ?

I then went to the site with FTP, indeed there is no customsearch.fil present in the actinic root directory ?

Is this a coding bug whereby somehow the file is not generated and therefore not passed ?

Refreshing the site a second time make no difference either.

Couldn't find any customsearch.fil on my site anywhere ?
          Thanks

Was your V7 site standard Actinic or was it a custom job? it may have something that V8 cannot handle on upgrade.

i always suggest the same time for this type of error, delete the fil files in both site1 and webserver to force actinic to rebuild

                Re: Search failing

Re: Rural Web - I upgraded from V6 Busienss straight to V8.0.0. and then patched to V8.0.2. I've customised nothing, just used standard options and values. The whole site seems to run fine, except for this search facility.

Re: Pinbrook - I should delete all the *.fil files on both Client & Server and then refresh the web site ? - ok I'll try this this evening.
                Thanks

                  Re: Search Failing

I deleted the *.fil files on my site and server as suggested, but then I started getting loads of error messages when I tried to regenerate / upload the web site. The messages were unhelpful e.g. 'error in Business application'. It got to the point where nothing was working on the site. After messing about with it for an hour or so, I ended up deleting the whole installation and restoring my backup....however the site / search options are still not working !

Maybe time to open a call to Support...as I'm paying for Actinic cover.
                  Thanks

                    Re: Search failing - resolved

                    Thanks for your help,

I was clearing the *.fil files incorrectly. Support guided me to an option under troubleshooting with rebuilds the site .fil & .cat files. This resolved my problem.
                    Thanks
