    CGI errors & merge errors

    Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade my site to v8.02. When updating the TEST site none of the CGI scripts were running properly. I search the forum and made some changes.

Change permissions on acatalog and cgi-bin to advised levels.

    Still wasnt working.

more searches made me retest the network settings - all goes OK until it tries to send an email from "localhost" then seems to fail. Again looking on the forum this didnt seem a big error and most advice was to ignore it.

Still not working. Now when doing a refresh got "merger errors"

So decided to bite the bullet and following yet other advice and clear out the cgi-bin and acatlog folders on the web server and then clear .fil and .cat files from my PC (site1) and try a complete refresh of the LIVE site.

Go so far then got the merger error and a error 502 - bad gateway (might be wrong about the error code).

Anyway very frustrated wnat to start using v8 but cant get the thing to work. Guess it must be my network settings but they are identical to the ones that work fine in v7.

Will post the setting next thread.

Anyone who would like to advise I'd be very grateful

    Cheers

merge errors normally can be cured by removing cat and fil files from both the PC AND the webserver.

if the error is still persistant, you may also have to remove the nn000000n.pl files from site1 and cgi-bin and copy the pm and pl files from the folder called original. to site1.

This will regenerate all actinic files and scripts

Matthew - can you check that PATHFROMCGITOCATALOG ./acatalog/

That would normally be ../acatalog/ - unless acatalog is inside your cgi-bin folder.

But why not start v7 and from the Advanced | Network Setup page, click the Export button to save the settings as a text file on the desktop. Then from v8, import the network settings, switch to test mode and you should be good to go.

          At last

Well I did everything as suggested - exported v7 settings - cleared the entire acatologe and cgi bin and uploaded afresh.

Still didnt work - go an error about the CGI bin not accessable.

Testing the site none of the CGI funtions were working. So I tested the network settings all passed.
So ftp'd the .fil / pm / cat files again - still not working.

So did a complete refresh once more and

Hey Presto - all now working - no errors

Seems that maybe it take a few uploads to copy all the files - dont know - dont care now working!

          Thanks for all the help
