And I was doing so well......

Developing in V8 quite nicely, I then decided to import a sub set of products from my v6 site so I could layout products with related products/also boughts to suit.

So i took a froogle export from v6, amended it to 20 products only, editted a couple of columns to get correct format for flat file import. Then imported sucessfully. For the record a full hierarcical export/import also threw up a header record error, hence the move to froogle/flat file.

Now everytime I go to Marketting, Bestsellers, I get Inernal Sales Application, we are going to close the application.

I have reset the PC and compacted database, but the error persists...

Hi Jo,

I have seen an issue when someone has moved accidentally the new products list item only, not the list itself. Have you done this with related product/also brought part?

To be honest I don't know....

I have scrapped that site now, and reimported the actinic products so I could carry on withthe site development.

But whilst you are there - what do I need to do with a v6 hierrarcical import to make it import to v8? as this is what I shall need to do.

The reason for doing the site design with actinic products is there are only a dozen or so, rather than doing the design with 500 products which considerable slows up previews and uploads

Currently within v8 you cannot import an hierarchical import file, the reason is because the v7 files refer to CUSTOMVARs and template files which are not applicable in v8. There are other incompatible fields. I do know for the forthcoming v8.0.4, there will be a utility which will convert a flat file to an hierarchical file, which may help you.

why would I want to do this?

unless it means I can export v6 to flat file, convert to hierarcichal, and then add all my components back into the file before importing. Thats the only advantage I can see. By using this method would I loose any info ie does flat file export export absolutely every field (except customvars that i accept I have to loose)

So in reality to get v6 data into 8 I will have to import a snapshot, and then apply a design snapshot.

If you're using 8.0.3 can you not just import the V6 snapshot but choose to use one of the V8 designs. i.e. import the orders and content only.

Is there anything this doesn't bring into V8 that you need?

You have to convert it into a hierarchical file because some of the fields in the V6 file are now UDPs and so can't be specified in the flat file. You may well find that if you remove some of the fields so that you are just importing the basic product details that your flat file will work.

This is now my preferred route. i just have to work out how to do a design snapshot, as I am already working on the design without the products.

I will leave the final v6 snapshot into 8 followed by design snapshot until the last moment to ensure I get all orders for bestsellers, also boughts etc etc

Plan is to play with the design between now and Jan, before adding products and orders and upgrade and release to the web early next year (this is Surf-wax)

Importing products from v7 to v8.0.3

I'm building a new site in v8.0.3 using custom design templates. I have added a few products manually but I would like to be able to import all the products from the previous version of the site which was built in v7.

I gather from this thread that hierarchical import from v7 to v8 is not possible yet..

I only want to import the products - I don't want any of the design or layout from the previous site coming in as well.

Can anyone advise me on the best way to do this?

Hi Rob

Best way would be to import it as a snapshot and in one of the options it will say do you just want to import the contents and orders. Just select this option.
