    Search results anchor

    Found a little problem with search results in V8. Previously in V7, if you searched for a product, the results would list and you could then link to the specific place on the page where that product resides. I presume this is by some form of anchor tag on each product.

    Now in V8, for some reason (i haven't touched the search part of the site) the product link only takes you to the page i.e. the top of the page, rather than the specific product on the page.

    I've had a look through the help section and also searched the forum with various terms, to see if this has been mentioned before, but i cannot find anything useful.

    Anyone shed any light on this?

    Cheers

    Im also having problems with the search. It works correctly on some sites ie it goes to the product - so I am not seeing the error lee describes but after altering the default settings I get an error message when a search is carried out saying that the catalog is being updated and to try again in a few minutes. When I go back to the default settings the search works ok.

      When i go into design tab and click on the {Product Link}, i get the follwoing code:

      <p>
      <Actinic:Variable Name="SearchResultItem"/>.
      <actinic:block if="%3cactinic%3avariable%20name%3d%22SearchResultShowsImage%22%20%2f%3e" >
      <Actinic:XMLTEMPLATE NAME="ImageLine">
      <img src="<actinic:variable name="SearchResultProductImage" />" <actinic:variable name="SearchResultProductImageSize" /> />
      </Actinic:XMLTEMPLATE>
      </actinic:block>
      <actinic:block if="%3cactinic%3avariable%20name%3d%22SearchResultShowsName%22%20%2f%3e">
      <Actinic:Variable Name="SearchResultLink"/><b>&nbsp;<Actinic:Variable Name="SearchResultProductName"/></b> </a>
      </actinic:block>
      <actinic:block if="%3cactinic%3avariable%20name%3d%22SearchResultShowsSectionName%22%20%2f%3e">
      <Actinic:Variable Name="SearchResultSectionName"/>
      </actinic:block>
      <actinic:block if="%3cactinic%3avariable%20name%3d%22SearchResultShowsPrice%22%20%2f%3e">
      <Actinic:Variable Name="SearchResultPrice"/>
      </actinic:block>
      <actinic:block if="%3cactinic%3avariable%20name%3d%22SearchResultShowsDescription%22%20%2f%3e">
      <br /><actinic:variable name="SearchResultFullDescription" />
      </actinic:block>
      <actinic:block if="%3cactinic%3avariable%20name%3d%22SearchResultShowsProperties%22%20%2f%3e" >
      <br /><actinic:variable name="SearchResultProp" />
      </actinic:block>
      </p>

      Is it me or is (what i have highlighted in red) that an unopened anchor tag?

      This was a great feature in V7 linking to the product, especially with many products on some pages.

      If i search for say product "3052", the resulting link has the following URL behind it:

      "http://www.birminghammodelcentre.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2ebirminghammodelcentre%2eco%2euk%2facatalog%2fCarsTrucks%2ehtml&WD=3052&PN=HPIMT2Spares%2ehtml%23a304#a304"

            Test mode should work the same as the live site.

              The word "should" shows your confidence .

              I was referring more to having to upload for 30 minutes to see if it works rather than 5 min upload on the live version. Surprised this hasn't been a problem for more people, maybe it hasn't been checked and this thread will start a salvo.

                It works ok on all my sites, the search result goes directly to the product.

                  Gotcha i read your post in the wrong way.

                  Well it was uploading, timed out, continued with http, hung towards the end and then crashed.

                  Removing the errant </a> had a very negative effect, so it is back now doing whatever it was before.

                  Any chance when you have 2 mins Malcolm of posting your code behind the {Product Link} on your search results template.

                  I can sense another 6/8 hours of work to reinstate something that was already there in V7. Sigh .

                      Well that makes sense, mine is identical to yours, yours works and mine fails.

                      2 hours and counting.

                      I look forward to finding the result out in 4-6 hours time.

                        At least the clocks go back an hour this weekend so it wont take too long

                          Either this software is crazy or i am. I can find no reference to this field within the help. There is no reference to it in here. I have reverted any layout with any word that even smells like "search" back to factory settings and still the same old rubbish.

                          Now this may turn out to be something silly that i am missing, but for me, it just epitamises why V8 is gaining a bad reputation. In V6 and V7 the search template was never touched, lo and behold the V8 upgrader decides to wreck what worked perfectly before.

                          Coming up to 4 hours now on this, quite ridiculous.

                          Surely each product has some form of an anchor tag, the link text in the search results should link to this. If there is a problem with the product anchors then surely this should be picked up through a check.

                          Onwards......

                              I appreciate your offer, but this really isn't your problem - you are too kind.

                              If you insist, i'm sure the snapshot you had previously will have the same problem.
