        Hello James

This feature was removed from the V8 toolbar as it was considered redundant.

          And who considered it redundant?

Are you looking for the Design | Options | Shopping mode bit

It has bounce delay in there or are you meaning the preview panel

The feature is redundant in v8 because the preview appears so much quicker than it did in v7. In v7 it would take ages to build a single page, so we gave you the option to delay the preview's refresh so it wouldn't regenerate the page design if you are just clicking quickly from section to section.

In v8 now this is not so much of an issue as the page generation is a lot quicker.

              Sorry Chris

I will disagree, i now do not use the preview window for 2 reasons

              1) Half the time is does not show the product your working on in the window.
              2) It is so bloody slow when you are changing product details e.t.c it drives you mad.

But you could be right maybe 10% quicker than v7, is still have V7 on my machine while i iron out the bugs with v8 when i get 5 mins i will time it on both versions.

I'm also going to have to agree with Darren. The page load time on some large sites takes forever to render. Sometimes if i don't want to wait for the page to render, ill preview it in an external browser. The browser will popup with the requested page and by the time I'm done looking at the page, ill go back to actinic and the page preview will finally come up. It can be a little tough using the designer mode without the page preview.

                  Hi Kevin

Yes I agree the preview on large pages takes a long time to render. If you are finding this to be the case then you might find it better to temporarily disable the preview - and only use it if you are actually making design changes.

Yes I agree the preview on large pages takes a long time to render.
I also seem to experience large delays with preview enabled as actinic appears to update the database before the preview page is refreshed. When V8 is as slow as mine is then this takes far too long to be usable.

This is on all pages, not just large ones.

Turning preview on or off changes the way actinic behaves. i.e.

                    1. With preview enabled:

                    - Create a new product section - Wait for 11 seconds before actinic comes back to life.
                    - Mark the new section for deletion - wait for 11 seconds before actinic comes back to life.
                    - Purge content - Instantaneous.

                    However with preview disabled:

                    2. With preview disabled:

                    - Create a new product section - - Instantaneous.
                    - Mark the new section for deletion - - Instantaneous.
                    - Purge content - Wait for 11 seconds before actinic comes back to life.

I have to agree, we find the preview far too slow to use, it effectively cripples the software making it almost useless.

We have the preview turned off and try and do as many changes as are reasonable before previewing it in an external browser.

Even viewing in an external browser can take several seconds to appear.

I haven't timed it, but Mikes numbers seem to be very similar to the way ours feels.

I would encourage you to register an email support request at http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm as it may be there is something that can be done to speed up the performance of your site(s).

                          Have registered a suport request.

Just timed how long it takes for the page preview to update following a product delete or un-delete: 27 seconds!

                          And that's on a Centrino Duo (2 x 2GHz) with 1GB RAM.

Bit excessive, perhapse something happened in the upgrade, we will see what the support peep's can find.

Yup! I have exactly the same problem. Actinic 8 has always had this slow preview issue.

I'm using 8.5.1 on a 2.4Ghz Quad Core with 2gb RAM and mine takes 28 Secs to preview a change on a product (i.e. delete a product)

It seems fine on sites that have a about 20 products, but when you have about 100+ products on a site, it takes ages to refresh a page preview when making a simple change.

I've switched off the page preview.... all changes are instant with it switched off!

I have to admit, Actinic V7, never suffered with this.

I would suggest that something else is affecting actinic as even on sites with thousands of products the refresh rate is not that bad.
