    Left Navigation

Can anyone tell me if the navigation used on the Adams site which is one of Actinic profile users is done using javascript or by using the facilities within Actinic its self. I want to produce a lefthand navigation bar just like this where it shows section names, but when you click through on a section name it shows the subsection names. This can be seen at
    http://adams.co.uk/shop/subcategorie...-4-10yrs-.html

    Many thanks
    Sally

    the Adams site
The Adams site is NOT an Actinic site. This has been highlighted before and Actinic really need to remove it from the featured sites.

It can certainly be hand coded but it is not a standard navigation type. One of Normans menu systems will be able to produce a similar effect.

The Adams schoolwear site was an Actinic site last time I looked at it, didn't realise that it had changed. Take a look at Normans Collapso menu, that is similar.

              Thankyou everybody for your help

The Collapso is very good but not quite as I require it as the navigation closes up once a subpage is clicked on.

Norman is this something that can be configured?

This is a problem due to the "stateless" nature of web pages. Basically each page has no real knowledge of how it got displayed.

This could probably be added to Collapso but would be a big job. It would either require storing path information in a cookie, or some complex JavaScript that inspects the navigation tree trying to match the present page with said tree. Quite a lot of work.

Note that I also have a new menu "NorList" that creates a set of static, search engine friendly, UL type links. These are styled by CSS and animated by JavaScript to act like a dynamic menu. This is suitable for sites with up to a few hundred pages as the UL list is embedded in every page. It would be too large to use on huge sites.

As I mentioned earlier it can be hand coded if you have the time/skills.

                    Norman

Have you got an example of Norlist running on a site somewhere so I can have a look.

                    Many thanks

You can see it on a standard Actinic demo site at http://www.drillpine.biz/v8norlist/acatalog/

There's also a demo site for the underlying DHTML code. See http://www.twinhelix.com/dhtml/fsmenu/demo/

Great work there Norman old bean...
but just to reiterate old Malcolms comments and enforce the versatility of V8

If you do not have the time or skills to create a js/DHTML etc menu schema, then there are solutions available, Norman is the Actinic king btw.

If you have the time and the skills, many wonderful effects can now be worked into the actinic set up using css and much more dramatic effects with java and DHTML, drop down menu's, pop outs etc.

It is all a question of time, experiment and of course, skills.

enjoy V8, get under the bonnet and get dirty....
