    Removing acatalog/ causing problems

    I am looked at numerous threads, including this message, regarding how to remove acatalog from our URLS.

    We have gone through the process, and have successfully got Actinic to publish to our web folder, without the actinic/ folder.

    Our root is as follows...

    cgi-bin/ ----> CGI BIN folder
    error-docs/
    httpdocs/ -----> Web Folder

    Whenever we publish though, the index.html home page always publishes in the root and not the httpdocs. Similarly, there remain numerous "acatalog" links throughout this home page. Ideally it should publish within httpdocs/ and NOT have the acatalog/ links!

    Help appreciated.

    PS: We have renamed the Products page (previously - index.html) to products.html.

    Easy one to get you going...

    Make sure the main shopping page index.html is renamed to say 'index2.html' which is the index.html that would under normal circumstances reside within the acatalog folder.

    Then, on the home page brochure page uncheck the use as home page option, which will still upload, but upload to the default folder and call itself index.html.

    If stuff is still going up with acatalog in it, then via the db check all of the fields again to make sure you have not missed one, and dont forget that you can not use the network settings dialog again, as that adds the acatalog references straight back in.

      Thanks for your help.

      Still having the problem as can be seen here.

      The links show acatalog in the URL - yet I've been thorugh the DB file, and cannot find an acatalog anywhere - can anyone tell me in which field I should be looking at exactly?

      I must be missing it!

        The changes you are making are to the database thus it is very difficult for us to diagnose. Unless you document in this post every step you have taken.

        I would be inclined to restore everything to use acatalog, test the site works 100% and if you still want to remove acatalog, start again.

        Personally I see no real benefit to doing this. Its the same as putting all your images in site1, it makes life easy. If you start making these sorts of tweaks you will probably make more trouble for yourself - IMO.

          I'd agree with that too. If this is being done for SEO purposes then you are totally wasting your time. I have a site with many of its products in one of the top 3 spots in Google, it has the acatalog folder and has a link to the sitemap on the home page. Apart from that it's content rich and been around for a few years - it really is quite simple.

          If you are being advised to do this by some SEO experts then tell em to sling their hook. Malcolm, our SEO Google guru can confirm that the acatalog has little effect, i'm sure.

          I would also presume by doing this you will remove some functionality from the drop down menus as these will overwrite your changes and will have to be very careful that you keep tabs on what you can and what you can't do.
