    Help required (please)

    Hi All

    I am new to Actinic so please bear with me if I state the obvious or have missed a thread.

    I am good with databases and html and some cgi – just to give you some idea of skill level.

    I am into day 16 of the 30 day trial and testing with a small sample of my 4000 item database.

    Couple of questions – any help/advice would be very welcome.

    1. The first question is the possibility of changing to a cascading/tree menu i.e sub items of sections as selected showing in the menu.

    I know this has been asked before and the answer is usually use the “add on” guy who contributes to this board or use the “Smart” theme. I don’t like the Smart theme and its too much work to alter and I will if I have to look at “add ons.”

    Just first I thought I would ask if there is a way of achieving the same in the executive theme ?

    2. Many of my products have many product references and parts descriptions all belonging to the same basic description (not options)

    i.e

    Image - Picture of dog food “Great actinic dog food very tasty”

    Then a list of items

    Dog Food 10 ml £5.50 - ad to basket etc.
    Dog food 50 ml £6.30
    Dog food 100ml 8.13
    Etc

    At the moment it appears I can only put an image on a section pages with long description and then ‘select dog food’, once there every item shows the same pictures of dog food, same descriptions etc and the a reference and short description.

    In a nutshell I have many products that only need to show 1 image plus long description and then a group of products by description only.

    Is the possible ? Am I making sense.

    Anyway enough for now – thank you for any help you can offer

    Regards

    Paul

    You can see Normans cacade menu at http://www.budgetbumps.co.uk/acatalog/index.html

    this is different to the Yahoo style menu used by the smart theme. There is no reason why you can't use the yahoo style menu in the exec theme. Take a look at the advanceduser guide to see al lthe navigation choices.

    try using a different layout for the products you want to display without image, ie remove theimage from the layout, and use a layout with image when you want the image

      Thanks but I am not clear

      Thanks for the reply Jo but perhaps I have not made myself clear.

      First I will forget about the menu issue and work on this later.

      What I want/need:

      Is to have an items page, that is for a list of items that only has 1 image and one decription then a long list of remaining items.

      It is crazy to have a same image and desription plus the wasted space in between every items.

      Differnet example:

      Items page - Brake pads >>>>

      Big picture of Brake Pads ------------------------- "Great brake pads for
      for lots and lots of cats"

      >>> FR1 >>> Ford escort super hard pads £100.00

      >>> RN1 >>> Renualt pads £150.00

      >>> BM1 >>> 318 brake pads £200.00

      etc. etc.

      Other programs have this feature which is normall called "is header"

      Can anyone shed some light please

      Thanks

        Paul

        This is done by using Attributes and Componants

        You can have pull down menu with text describing the part and also the price
        The price can be adjusted using permutations in the componant

          You can mix layouts on a page.

          Use a Fragment to introduce your product. This can use a layout for the big picrure and blurb.

          Then follow with your Products, each using a compact single-line layout.
