    Shipping charges

I am currently seting up version 8. I have set up a few shipping rates for UK only. eg 1st class post, recorded, and parcelforce. All my products have the weight included.

How can I change the default rate. At the moment it is first class post, and I would like it to be something else. Also is there a method of defaulting to a set rate if the price exceeds a given amount based on the accumulate dweihgt of an item. That is if by adding together the weights of three items using one rate it will default to the "std" rate of £x per order using, say parcelforce.

One further question. Is it possible to put the rate selection on an earlier page so that they can chose the rate at before going to check out.

    Thanks very much

I remember changing in V7 the order in which things filled the shipping options list and it involved amending one of the Perl scrpts. I changed it so that the cheapest always populated the list first. http://community.actinic.com/showpos...14&postcount=4

As for moving the selection, i haven't heard of this done as the norm is to collect the address to assist in calculating the options. I know you only ship to UK, however Actinic doesn't know this when it is created for the masses.

It would probably be possible but would involve an overhaul of the checkout stages and the scripts, which would take it out of the scope of most people. I wouldn't do it personally either as if a customer wants to amend something in the cart (maybe increase/decrease or remove a product) then they are going to have to go back to reselect, where the common sense thing is to get them to select this after they have confirmed both what they want and where they live.

Thanks for that. I will give it a go.

Also is it possible to change the default setting. (I think this will actually resolve my problems, maybe the question wasn't well worded )
That is to say how can I make say, parcel force 24 the default option rather than 1st class letter. I worded my question the way I did assuming that because 1st class letter was the first in the list, it was also the default. Have I made that clearer ?

I hope so. Thanks for your help

All i can recall from when i did this is that i often had a more expensive option showing in the drop down list and i wanted this to always show the cheapest, so as not to scare people off etc.

By changing the above script i got what i wanted. However, i do recall that once you go through and order something, the shipping option you selected will be selected automatically (as the default) the next time you buy something, i presume this is somewhere in the cookie that retains your address and details etc.

If you are putting test orders thru your site to see what happens, be aware that the settings you have already used may override what you want to show. In other words it may be correct what it is doing for everybody else, however not for you as you have already ordered etc.

As for setting Parcel Force as the default i do not know, this may be as simple as having it as the first in your shipping options. I cannot add anything on that point sorry.

          Thanks

          Lee,

Thanks for that it worked great. Part of the problems I am having are due to the very limited documentation. The "getting started" is fine for what it does. The "advanced " manual is very advanced. Is there somewhere I can get information on all the standard functions within the system?

One Last question If I may. How can I turn off the alternative delivery option checkbox on the check out page

          Thanks again

That question is easy to answer

Help | Help Topics - it is the intermediate source of help you are looking for and also where you will find how to control the addressing options - under the description of restricting to one address.

              Thanks for that.

Unfortunately I cannot find the section you refer to in the help topics. What I am trying to do is remove the option for a customer to select to send to another address. My credit card company won't cover me if it turns out to be fraudulent!!

Currently this is a tick box option. I am sure i have seen this in the busness settings section but I can't seem to find it now.

              Thanks again
