I've seen a number of companies use PayPal. I think it is probably down to the choice of your Accounts dept.

As far as being a user is concerned I don't think there is an issue about PayPal, lets face it, if you're buying on ebay you avoid those who don't accept PayPal (well I do anyway)!

Also, the more payment options you have, the more admin you have to do.

      Hi Mark, Welcome on board

I use PROTX/ Streamline as my main card processing system and use nochex and paypal as backups, due to the latter 2 costing me more in processing fees in impose a 40p + 5% charge if they decide to use these.

I hate paypal for the fact you have no security and they can take your money if a customer claims never recieving goods or someone buys from you with a stolen credit card, so they freeze your account pending investigation, which is upto 180 days.

So you ask why i have it, because people still use it and they know no better. so i charge for the service as a insurance if you like.

      Just my view
      cheers

Paypal is still to reach the point of having credibility as a PSP.

it reeks of site built on a budget.

To make sales a website has to be credible - one such sign of credibility is using a "proper" payment method ie worldpay, protx, SSL, HSBC etc etc

Use paypal as an additional method of taking payment NOT the main one

Do a forum search you will find this has been discussed in the past very emotively

In answer to the OP you will need to contact the various organisations to negotiate rates etc, as all deals are negotiated individually.

I'd third the Paypal sentiments, never have this as your main payment. PROTX would get my vote with Paypal as a backup for anyone that doesn't mind using it. It is still behind in credibility, but will be up there in 2 years time IMO.

I like to think that if i have a customer who wants things and is just about to pay and my methods are limited or not to their liking and they leave, that is a crushing blow. I believe in offerring a wide selection of payment methods, except for American Express, they can go forth.

I have to agree with american express, i would accept it if actinic allowed me to leavy charges against this card type. Why people accept it is beyond me all i can say is that those who do must have good markups

It always cracks me up that even the owners of the cards understand. They know what a joke AE is and still stay with them. It must be cos its trendy and a well known name.

AE is scandalous, i can't believe they survive personally. I recall Marks & Sparks tried to have exclusive methods that nobody else did and that failed ultimately for them.

I wonder how many retailers will look at this and go, American Express, whats up with them?

Yes, a friend of mine runs a business and has an AE card.......snag is there are veeeery few places it can be used. Looks cute apparently

I think the original question on this thread has been answered in that if you are running a business that needs security and reliability then use one of the recognised Payment Options (we use Secure Trading cos it based here in Wales) but if you were running a small home based business and couldn't initially justify the expense of one of the main line options then I guess PayPal is *a* way to go. I, mean, personally, after years of transactions using PayPal I have not had a problem.....I guess I am the lucky one!!

Just another question to cover my arse concerning papypal.

i could send all papypal orders out on signed delivery which means i would
have p/o/d/ on every paypal orders recieved. (hopefully that would stop the
rubbish with the paypal account being suspended.) if customers compalin about goods not being delivered. I would have proof.

Is their a way with Actinic software where you could set up a delivery charge
option to paypal payments only. (not to products has we offer free delivery on orders.)

Sounds odd i know trying to set up a delivery fee to a payment method.

                    any ideas.

Paypal are very good at not accepting recorded delivery as proof of delivery may i suggest you have a look at this site before you put all your eggs into one basket http://www.paypalsucks.com/

Anyway to add charges for payment methods, ad a surcharge in the discount settings bit. You can set it up to apply a charge by payment method.

                      Cheers
