    Component and Attribute Layout

    Hello,

I would like to be able to lay my components out horizontally and not vertically. Is there an easy way to do this as currently it makes the Product page look 'long & thin'. I would like to be able to do the same for the attributes within the components.
    Thanks

Design / Library / Layouts / Component Lists / Standard Component List / Edit List Layout Settings / Edit Rows and Columns / Middle Rows. Change from 1 to however many across you want.

If you want to vary this per product, or page, you can create a Variable that's valid at the Section and Product level and use this variable instead of a hard-coded value, by selecting it from the drop-down option "Select Variable" that's offered in Middle Rows.

I would like to be able to do the same for the attributes within the components.
Done in the Product Details / Layout / Attribute / Column Count for Attributes. Or you can set this Variable to a different top-level value in the Library.

      I had a similar problem.

I've changed my components layout to 2 columns by the following method:-

      Design|Library|Layouts|Component Lists|
Select "Standard Component List" right click and copy to create a new layout
      "Standard Component List (Copy)".

Open the copy file, and click "Edit List Layout Settings", then select the "Edit Rows & Columns" tab. Change Middle Rows|Number of Items from 1 to 2 and save. Rename this layout to whatever you want (eg Standard Component List2 columns).

Now, for each product, in Product Details|Layout you will have the option to select either the Standard Component List Layout or the 2 column one.

I've tried this up to 10 columns and it works, but your component description takes more rows as you increase the column numbers.

We use Contemporary Theme, and it has a Product Layout called "CSS Product Layout" This layout has the image to the left, text to right, but, unlike most standard layouts, the CSS one allows the components to use the space directly under the image (most other layouts put the components beneath the text column only), which gives you scope for more component columns. I don't know if any other themes offer this layout, but I'm sure somebody else in the community will be able to tell you.

If you want to see the 2 column layout in operation, click the link on my signature, and select any product in the UK & Ireland Section of the site.

      Hope this helps.

        Re: Component / Attribute layouts

Thank you for your prompt help....I'll try it in the coming days.

With regard to 'flattening the attributes layout', I believe Norman's solution is referring to the column count setting within an attribute. I was referring to the attribute header itself. e.g. if I have a component that contains attributes Size, Colour, Model etc. and each attribute has values, I wanted to lay out the Attribute Headings across the page and then have the choices under these. I also have multiple components...hench wanting to lay these sideways as well for some acticles.

I'll try the recommended solutions and see how well they work....
        Thanks
