Actinic Keeps Crashing On Me

Hi,

Everytime i try to view the login page in design view and also when i try to upload the site actinic catalog v8 has started crashing on me.

I think it could be a problem with the login page as i had tried adding a newproductlayout to it prior to it crashing the first time but cant se ehow to fix out. Any Suggestions on how to fix this.

Reinstate a previous snapshot and start again is undoubtedly your best bet. If its crashing consistently you have done something that it dislikes and will not heal.

If you have no previous snapshots, you have probably just learnt your most important lesson when you start messing with layouts. Always snapshot before you start something and just after otherwise you will be guaranteed to lose hours and hours of work. Trust me, i and many others as we started to learn this product learnt the very very hard way.

Without a snapshot my best suggestion is for you to "revert to factory setting" on the layout, which will replace your messed up layout with the original actinic one provided. Once you have done this and all seems ok, snapshot and then start the amendments again.

do you think it would work if i got hold of a copy of the original login html from somehwhere? I have been backing up my work there is a problem with the last backup and dont want to lose hours of work.

In short i do not know, if your backup has a problem, then the issue may reach further back, it's hard to give a definite answer. Does the "problem with last backup" mean that you haven't backuped for sometime really and don't want to go over all the work again?

Have you tried the "compare layouts" option which will show you the original versus your amended layout?

Sometimes with V8, you juat have to accept it and learn a big lesson. Some of my posts from just a few weeks ago will indicate where i have lost more than 2 days work because of a lack of snapshots. One thing i will say is that all the amendments are far quicker to redo a second time as you know what you are doing. Just snapshot after each step.

I would snapshot what you have now, then revert the layout to factory settings and see where you are. At least you can then get back to where you are now with a messed up layout.
