VAT rounding and exact prices

    Hi!

I read the thread " fixed price discount problem" and have a similar problem. I have products which are UK VAT standard (17.5%) that I would like to have at a fixed price (e.g. £89.00). However, when I put in the VAT exclusive price of £75,74 the result is £88.99. But if I enter £75.75 it results as £89.01.

I tried entering "%s<!-- at %s%% -->" into Design | Text | id 229 (current value), but the VAT on these products still shows as 17.51%.

    Have I done something wrong?

    Thanks.

    Hi Maff,

No, you're not doing anything wrong. We all suffer with the same problem. Actinic MAY look at this rounding problem in the next issue v9! You'll just have to compromise at £89.99!

So what is it that Bruce is introducing in the thread mentioned above?

Did you change both the default value and the current value?

Bruce's post related to version 7 where there was only one thing to change. In v8 you do need to change both.

          Sorry Maff,

He's introduced something I'd missed!! I've just tried it out and it works, giving the correct rounding to the penny. Even I've learned something new now.

          Have you tried it out?

          Cheers.

The default value is greyed out. I can only change the current value. Why would it be greyed out?

You need to paste the code into the Current Value and this will alter the Default value!

                Using Custom tax in v8

Go to Design | Text - click the GoTo button and type in 229.

Change the Current Value to read "%s <!-- at %s%% -->

                Save and close.

                ----

Go to Design | Library and on the Layout tab, select Standard Tax Inclusive Price

Right click and make a copy of this. I renamed my copy to Tax inclusive price (rate not shown)

in the copy find Line 24 which reads

                (Including block ifTaxName1 at TaxRate1%/blockblocki if and /blockblock if TaxName2 at TaxRate2%/block)

and change it to read (Including block ifTaxName1/blockblocki if and /blockblock if TaxName2/block)

                Save and close the Library.

Open Settings | Site Options and on the Layout tab in the Product section click beside the description and select your new layout.

                ---------

This will give you a display of Price: £23.50 (Including VAT)

                  Hi,

I too have the same problem. So that I fully understand the various comments, am I correct in saying that all the steps required are in the last comment? Hopefully that is the case but I then have another problem. I can't find the layout you refer to. I have just tried to add a picture but I don't know how to.

                  Sorry. Can anyone help please??

Sorry for being thick.... I have just found the price layout !!!

My first question is still valid though.

                    Thanks again

I used Bruce's remedy which is a link in the first post above and this worked for me. I haven't tried to implement Bill's method, but I'm confident that it will work correctly!

Yes, I summarised all the required steps in post #8 so that it can be linked to when the question is repeated in future.

                          Vat Rounding

                          Hi,

like most people I've had the same problem with VAT rounding. It's been annoying but not critical, so was happy to see this tread.

But it doesnt work for me!

Followed steps in Tread #8 though it changes the display to say (Incl. VAT) instead of at 17.5%, it doesnt fix the basic problem. I have checked rounding and is set to Round Item Scentific.

Example item should be £15.95 incl VAT so set price to £13.57 ex vat but shows price as £15.94

I minor problem but would be nice to sort this out

I have the same problem, I took the steps in post # 8 and it is still round it up a cent short. Not a massive issue but something I'd like to be able to fix at some point.

                              Shane,

The rounding is a well known issue and is being addressed in v9. For the time being the only way to get around it is to use a custom VAT on the particular product so that it adds up correctly.

                              Kind regards,
