    Uploading Takes 4+ hours!

I am using the latest patch of version 8 yet trying to upload a site takes forever - I have currently been sat here for 3 hours waiting for my site to upload and it is still sitting on "Reviewing Files" and has been for most of that time - it will probably still be doing so in several more hours time

I have compacted the database to no avail

I am going to have to scrap this site completely and go back to version 7 which does not have this problem.

Can anyone suggest a way to make this useable - at present it is a disaster - I cant wait a working day to upload a site - it is a waste of my time and my clients money!!!! I have many other things I should be doing such as work on other sites!

    Thanks in advance

I think its fair to say that if it has been on that screen for 3 hours, then it has crashed or failed. Stop the process, do a network test, make sure ftp details such as passive and the timeout are ok and start it again.

It could as easily be a hosting problem as a v8 problem. I dont think there is a site in the country that will not load within an hour, so dont wait any longer than that ever.

Did it work before? If so could you have a firewall blocking it? Many firewalls need retraining when you upgrade a program that's been previously given access.

If you are using the Best Sellers list in the side bar this will add to the upload time as all pages will be uploading again with the new details - this can be set to be excluded from the page - see advanced user guide - this will help the upload time but not from 4 hours!!

I've had that problem on V7 twice and both times for differing reasons...

          (1) Check that the server is set to allow file permission changes.
          (2) Ensure that your firewall / virus isn't verifying every file and then incurring a timeout.

            Answering your questions

leehack - it hasnt crashed - it does get there eventually without any other intervention - the problem is that the reviewing files process takes several hours - once past that part it gets on and uploads the files in a few mins

Norman - I do have a firewall but i am not getting any firewall popup errors as i normally would - both version 7 and 8 have separate entries in the program control part of the firewall and have the same perms - v7 doesnt have this problem

jont - I have Best Sellers but currently have this set as fixed items and not generating on each uploads - when it finally does the upload itself it only uploads a couple of dozen files

NVL - i will have to check that the anti-virus isnt interfering - although v7 doesnt have the problem that v8 does

Thanks for your suggestions so far

              Any other suggestions

I am getting desparate - if i cant solve this by Monday I'll have to dump the shop until I can redesign it in v7 in the New Year

              Thanks

Since no-one else seems to be reporting this it looks very like it's specific to your system.

There are some things you could try to isolate this.

                1) Install Actinic on a spare system and move a Snapshot over to there. See if this shows the same problem. If so (if spare is a laptop), try moving laptop somewhere else and see if uploading through a different network works. You could also try a different dial-up connection.

                2) Try to isolate the external host from the problem by uploading to a completely different server.

                  Hi Jane

I have not seen this issue from the community, Maybe try what Norman has written. Also try and contact Actinic Support, they would ask for your snapshot, and see if they can upload to the suport trial server

                  Kind Regards

                    Thanks Norman

I run Actinic on 2 separate machines - both with XP but different specs, etc and have tried it on both with the same results

I have a number of v7 sites running on this host with very similar settings - domain name and accounts only diff
i have a bulk host account
all the v7s load fast and the other sites i was in the process of setting up loaded the base pages no problems but they have no products just brochure pages

I have tried to eliminate everything i can think of
was hoping someone had a lateral thought or 2!
being a techie i'm not good at those!

                    thanks again
