Multiple products with same components and attributes.

    Hi all,

I have a range of products that are all similar. however they have components and attributes on them that are identical across many products. If any of these things change then I have to edit 100+ products so obviously I don't want to do this. How can I make a dummy product that will have the components and attributes of all 100 products. but still buying the original product? That way I will only have to edit one product.

    Thanks

      Hi Rob

You can have many different components/attributes/choices linked to a single associated product. That way, you can change the price/name of the associated product, and it will change multiple components at the same time.

There is also a great little fix in the Advanced User Guide to hide choices if the associated product is out of stock. This would help you automatically remove the choices for any item that you didn't want to list any more.

        Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply. Can you take a look at www.highstreetspecs.co.uk, it should help me explain the problem a bit more.

For each pair of glasses (product) we have a number of components/attributes/choices that make up the prescription. At the moment if we wish to change the prescription options (choices etc) we have to do this for each pair of glasses (product) independently. Is it possible to somehow create a dummy product with the prescriptions options in so if we have to update the prescription options we need only do it once and its rolled out across all glasses.

Our particular challenge is to change the number of choices in the drop down list for the "Axis" attribute, we would have to do this for every product which is over 100 times, once for each product.

Is it at all possible to have users enter free text as a product option/choice, i.e we can remove the drop down box for the "Axis" and have the customer enter text in.

An answer to either would solve the problem.

        Thanks

Norman has a multi other info addon that will be able to do this.
