Credit Card Details Using SSL Question ??

    Hi All

I am just sorting out the best option for me regarding taking payments. What i want to do initially is to use SSL on a server to capture card details for later processing.

This is an option within Actinic software but states i must use an SSL server for obvious security reasons.

I was just about to sign up for a hosting package with Webfusion but found out today that they dont offer a SSL option or shared SSL

So can anybody reccommend a tried and tested hosting company which includes SSL that works perfect with Actinic and also including smtp mail server for emails etc.. which i know has been aproblem with certain hosting companies..

    Thanks Keith

if you want to host with webfusion you can use Actinic shared SSL.

There is a world of difference between shared SSL, own SSL and actinic shared SSL. Contact Actinic for details of their shared SSL.

Or contact us if you want your own SSL cert

      Hi Jo

Can you explain in breif the pit falls of shared SSL and i if need a SSL cert what cost is involed and how does it work.

Other than that i dont mind shared SSL with the hosting company, Can you recommend any ??? I know ixwebhosting offer shared SSL but they are US based and the SMTP email thing doesnt work, I need a UK based web host at reasonable cost

Actinic shared ssl is not the same as a hosts shared SSL. Personally I've never tried to configure a hosts shared SSL as it tends to be tricky. The price difference is taken up in time configuring so I don't bother

The diiference between shared SSL and your own cert is if you have your own cert the customer goes seamlessly from http://yourdomain to https://yourdomain

using shared the customer bounces from http://yourdomain to https://yourhostssecureserver.anything

price for actinic shared SSL is visible on their site, our price for hosting and ssl is on our website (forum rules prevent me from posting prices)
