    Second Machine for Order Processing

    Hi,

I am looking at using the method of having a second machine for order processing and have read info in the forum about setting this up but just wanted to check something.

i know it is not possible to use both machines for uploading and downloading but is it possible to use one machine for upload but both for download?

The main reason i am looking into this is because during the day i am not at home where the orders are processed so the majority of the time it would be best to have the orders processed on another machine, however there will be times over the holidays etc where i will not have access to the machine i would be setting up for order processing so would still need to be able to use the original machine for processing as well. Hope that makes sense

no, orders are downloaded once, therefore will end up on the machine that downloads them only

Unless you have multi user - have you read this current thread http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=24164 Alistair's current set up may point you somewhere else

Would you not be able to download new orders on the other machine (which have not alreayd been downloaded)?

I know this would mean some orders on one machine and some on another but it would still at least mean you can view any new orders that come through whilst you dont have access to the order processing machine - is that right?

if you are happy to have orders on 2 machines, yes you can, but it means you can't put them back together again, and if you run monthly reports you will have a mess on your hands [edit] I may be wrong here as v8 allows you to import orders, but i don't know if the import orders feature overwrites the current orders or simply adds them.

Wouldn't it be better to send a email of the order to a 2nd address to you can se the order, and then still download to the one machine

I have already set up the customer email to copy in our email address (which we can acces online anywhere), so this is probably the best option, i hadnt thought about the implications for order processing reports etc. Thanks for your advice.
