    Hi all,

    I think i have finally finished the layout of the site. From what i can see there a no longer any problems with viewing the site with firefox.

    I still have some more products to add and and finish adding related product info but the site is live and has had sales coming through. If you have the time i would be grateful if you could have a look and play around with the site and let me know what you think or any errors you spot. I have looked through but is always worth getitng some extra opinions.

    Kind Regards

    One thing that strikes me is that all your products within a section have the same title tag eg Furniture - this shows for every product including the Red Bin. This will be a problem with the SEs as the title tag does not really describe your products.

    I assume you are using the extended info as the product page as it looks like this uses the title tag from the section for every product it contains. If not then make each title tag unique.

        yes i am using extended info as product pages, hadnt realised that the title tag was using the section name. I have got round this by changing the <actinic:variable name="PageTitle" /> for the extended info layout for the <actinic:variable name="ProductName /> which now means the title tag is the product name. Not sure how much effect it would have had regarding se's because although the title tags where the same each extended info page has its own name for the url. However it certainly looks a lot better with the product name and best to be on the safe side when it comes to the se's.

          Just spotted I have the same issue, thanks. Can you be more precise about where the <actinic:variable name="PageTitle" /> can be found? Sorry, newbie!

            Also your keyword + Description tags are not unique (they are not used by SEs much). Your extendeded info urls have % in them - try to get rid of this.

              hi

              Go to your extended info page code layout in design view. Their should be the following section within the head tags at the top of the layout.

              <html>
              <head>
              <title><actinic:variable name="PageTitle" /></title>

              Change PageTitle for ProductName.

              Hope that makes sense.

              Also your keyword + Description tags are not unique (they are not used by SEs much). Your extendeded info urls have % in them - try to get rid of this.
              Malcolm, both good points. Might try using the product description as the meta description for the extended info pages (this would then be unique for each product). Not too sure how would go about setting different meta keywords (may have to be set up as a new variable).

              Regarding the % in url i am not 100% sure why these are showing as i dont have any spaces in the urls and am using "_" instead of spacers. This is fine for all pages which show the "_" in the url but for some reason the extended info pages replace the "_" in the url with "%5". Anyone got any ideas on why this is?

              Regards

                To be honest I have my doubts about the whole extended info product system - the theory behind one product per page is that you can optimise the single page for that product. Using the extended info method does not really allow you to do this also the link created between the product and extended info page is IMO not that SE friendly (norm has something to improve this you may want to look at) also the products are not showing on the site map which they would be if you used the old V7 method.

                These are just observations as I have not really had time to play with it properly so others who have used it may be able to clarify how well these pages are indexed and ranked compared to the old method.

                  Sorry to bother you again but I am not familiar at all with the extended info pages, can you tell me how I can find the "extended info page code layout " you mention?

                  Thanks

                    The quickest way to do it is to go to the 'Extended Info Layout' group in the library ('Design | Library') and you can then edit the layout that you are using for your extended information pages.

                      Still not quite sure what is going on here as the url's are correct (the strange thing is that the top navigation links do work on these pages when using firefox but not in IE. Anyone got any ideas?

                      Also your keyword + Description tags are not unique (they are not used by SEs much). Your extendeded info urls have % in them - try to get rid of this.
                      On the exteneded info page layout:

                      1. Have changed the meta keywords to be the variable ProductName - this at least means the main terms are included as meta kws (may need to look into adding a few extra variables as well eg sectionname so as to add a few extra relevant terms).

                      2. Have changed the meta description to be the variable ProductDescription, as this is the full product description will be very relevant to the page.

                      Still not had proper chance to look into the % in url problem for extended info although still not sure why it is happening on extended info but not section page urls.

                      also the products are not showing on the site map which they would be if you used the old V7 method.
                      IMO this is probably the best way for the site , it shows all the section levels which allow users to get to the place they want to go to but if there were 500+ product links on there too it would be a very cluttered page and so possibly more confusing than useful to the user. A lot of sites i have used and seen only show section levels on the sitemap.

                      regards
