With most software, it would depend on what barcode font(s) you have installed and if more than one, which is the default.

It is code 39, it is quite small though, so maybe that is the problem. Actinic installs it's own barcode fonts.

I will retreive my barcode scanner from the loft and check that I can scan them here, I could last time I tried though - which was around 6 months ago.

Thanks for that - yes it is Code 39.

What I have discovered is that Code 39 needs a start and end charcater which is an * (ie at either end), it could be that newer readers have the facility to not require this. My scanner will scan Code 39 when the *'s are present, but wont if they are not - and there is no function available to not scan code 39 if the start/end character is not present.

        Could that be the problem?

As a note: the problem and the printing of barcodes from Actinic has nothing to do with what barcode fonts are installed.

ROFL - if you believe that yourself, even for an instant, just try removing the installed font and printing the barcode.

            Hi Karl,

Sorry I thought I replied to this yesterday but I obviously didn't. I have checked the reports with my barcode scanner and they do scan (althought I do loose some of the characters but I think that this is a problem with my printer printing a poor quality barcode).

The Actinic report puts brackets around the barcode not stars, can you reconfigure your scanner to look for brackets?

My scanner is a basic wasp scanner, I think it was fairly cheap (< £50).

              Hi Jan

No cant configure scanner - its about 7 years old, and apparantly the standard for code 39 is * at either end.

Will have to get a new scanner.

              Thanks for the reply.
