    Export

    Hi,

Does anyone know of a way to do a flat file export to excel. I know Actinic can do export but it is in Hierarchical layout which i can't use. Failing that is there a way to convert this export to flatfile

    Thanks very much

It would be quite easy to change a hie export into a flat file. It is just columns of data at the end of the day.

The easiest way would be to use autofilter

Simply export as a hie csv.

Highlight the header rows which relate to the data you want and then expand your selection to the end of the csv. So for example highlight from A2 select this cell and press Ctrl+Shift+End and this would highlight the product header. Then go to

Go to Data > Filter > Autofilter

Then in the first column use the drop down to select product and this will give you a flat file of just products which you can copy and paste into a new csv. You could in theory repeat this for every header but i'm not quite sure why you would want to...

    Hope this helps

      Hi,

Thanks for that. I will explain why I need it. Even though it may sound like a bit of a circularity to you.....
I am having loads of problems with data updates. i have imported the dat from a flat file which I run through a converter written by a friend to get into Actinic format. Unfortunately Some of my products are not updateing properly when they have associated products. I have been told by Actinic that the only way it will work is to make sure that the dummy product is in the import routine. Therefore If I export, put into flat file, manipulate and correct, I can then put it back.

Yes i know it is cumbersome but can you think of an easier way to update products and link to the "dummy" product. I would be pleased to hear from you

        Hi

If you like I can take a look at both sets of data? I'd be more than happy to see if I can find a simple way to update your Hie export with the data in the flat file. Usually a simple vlookup is enough... Attach some sample data to a reply and i'll take a look, and upload any solutions.

We've faced problems before due to price increases from our suppliers and using some custom excel formulas and a little vbscript it's very easy to update all 8000 of our products in a few minutes.

Some people use the Marketing / Export Froogle Data Feed report to generate a flat file containing all product data. It's not really intended for re-importing so it may not suit your needs.
