    SMTP Server

Since we have upgraded to the new patch 8.4 we have been having problems with our smtp server. It has always been set to 'localhost' but since upgrading we have been getting the following message:

The computer you specified as your mail server is not a valid mail (SMTP) server. Check the computer name or address and try again. If it fails again, then it is possible, you were locked out by a firewall program, or you don't have network connection to this server.

Is it possible that the new patch has done something to make this happen or is it most likely a coinsidence and it is infact a problem with our host?

    Kind regards
    Alex

is it most likely a coinsidence
I would work on this option - I have upgraded a couple of sites today which also use localhost and they have had no problems. Give it a few hours and try again.

      Hey

We are still having the same problem, we are with EASYSPACE. I have read another post on here from a while back and they had identical problems which were just fixed overnight due to something EASYSPACE did.

I guess we get onto EASYSPACE's case. Is anyone else having problems with using 'localhost' with EASYSPACE at the moment?

      Cheers

        Hi Alex,

If you have not changed your hosting area that houses your Actinic store then 'localhost' should not have changed either.
This error is most likely either
        a) The cgi scripts on the server that Actinic uses may have the wrong permissions set. Ensure they are CHMOD 755 (rwx r-x r-x)
        b) The .pl and .pl files in actinic that generate the cgi scripts that test and send emails may be corrupt after the upgrade. Completing a "Help | Troubleshooting | Website Purge and Refresh" will restore all the .pl and .pm files from the originals in the actinic installation and may resolve this issue.

        2 more options for you.

          Hey

Our phpbb forum is also no longer sending emails to notify us or new PMs or new members etc. This would lead me to beleive it is not Actinic at all and more a host issue?

fergusw - Would you still suggest I do what you wrote in your previous post?

          Kind regards
          Alex

            Hi Alex,
You are most probably correct in that, given this new information, it may well likely be a hosting issue and therefore it should be EASYSPACE's case, as you indicated earlier, that you have to get onto!

              Hey

I have been in contact with EASYSPACE and they told me to replace 'localhost' with '10.1.1.200' and it has solved our problem

              Cheers
