    Upgrader cannot find 'Business' theme

    Hi there

When I import my v7.5 snapshot into V8, the upgrader kicks in.. and fails because it says it cant find the "business theme". Subsequently the result is a site that looks nothing like the original.

    Whats happening here ?

    Jez,

I would suggest compacting the v7 site and then creating a new snapshot. Once done try to import into v8 again. if it still fails with the same error, then please raise a support ticket @ http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm as a member of the support team will have to get the v7 snapshot to see what is causing he upgrade to fail.

    Kind regards,

this, is exactly the same issue i'm having.

after my adventures in corrupted dropdowns, i turn my attention back to upgrading our sites to v8. this error is utterly useless to me. it tells me nothing about how to repair this problem, and since i'v already raised this problem with support, i can safely say that this situation is indeed _dire_

actinic has NO debug output. this is an essential tool to find problems. i'd be able to find out exactly whats wrong with the upgrader, if it was logged.

as it happens i understand that (after plenty of browsing this forum) v8 is unable to find data about the original theme used to develop the site in v7.

        'business'.

hence, the error message. so, i cant find the format of the acd, is it a zip? perhaps i can manually fix this error. It'd be splendid if the developers saw fit to release something like a snapshot browser/viewer. it'd help me greatly.

I'll be posting _another_ trouble ticket today.

keep trying rookers, and i'd appreciate an email if you find out something.

          Gabriel,

You can view a snapshot by opening the .acd file using winzip, you should then be able to browse the contents of the snapshot to see if it is really missing the info.

Yes I logged a support query and was told that instead of installing v8 separately and importing the snaphot, I needed to do an Upgrade install.

Obviously I am nervous as hell of doing that as I do not want to muck up my stable system.

I was told that it would NOT muck it up and that doing an Upgrade install will in fact install to a separate directly and leave the original system inteact and untouched.... but guess what I do not believe a work of it. Surely "upgrade" means it will install over what I currently have ?

Can someone confirm or deny this for me as I have a v8 update disk that I dare not touch.

              Thanks
              Jez

                Jez,

What you were asked to do was to uninstall and then reinstall v8. Once done, instead of trying to bring in the products via an import form a hierarchical file created in v7, you were advised to create a snapshot in v7 and upgrade the snapshot by importing that into v8.

                Kind regards,

                  Gabriel,

I am sure, just tried it again to be sure. Right click on a .acd file and select open, then select from a list of programs, selected winzip executable and presto I can see all the files.

                  Regards,

Hi Bruce - thanks for that, but surely that is what I originally tried to do ??! I have never tried to import in any other way than using a snapshot, and that is what brought up the "business theme cant be found" error.

This is what GW Green from actinic mailed to me:

The way that the previous issue has been resolved was to abandon the usual method of upgrading (as I suspect I have recommended to you earlier), instead of installing the V8 first and importing the v7 snapshot, remove the version 8 and re-install it choosing the 'upgrade v7' option when asked, this should find the correct 'Business' theme files as they are within the existing installation.

As you can see the message tells me to "upgrade v7" - which is what I am nervous about doing as that says to me reading between the line, it will amend my current "LIVE" setup.

This really is the most frustrating and annoying situation. I want to take advantage of the latest features of V8 - but there just seems no way I can do that, just because I have shelled out ££££££'s to have a custom theme developed, I'm now stuck in a v7.5 timewarp.

Ok why not try this. Install v7.5 on another machine and move over a snapshot to that one, then install v8 and choose to upgrade the v7 installation here so that you have the existing version still working fine on the initial machine and you can play around with the upgrade on the other machine.

                      regards,

Fair enough, Bruce, thanks for that - I shall give it a go.

                        Cheers
