Changes in 804: Duplicate or Main Product in Best Sellers, New Products Lists..

Users can now pick whether the main product, or one of its duplicates, is used in the 'best sellers/new products lists.

Erm... How?

I've been to Marketing | New Products and done a search for products and the duplicates don't appear in the list! Same goes for Marketing Marketing | Best Sellers.

Any advice appreciated!

Quite right I can'y see how to do that either - mind you, why would you want to?

It'd be handy if you sell products with complicated or unrelated cross-applications. Then, you can have a different section for each application and duplicates in each section with a unique description. Then the marketing link going to a specific duplicate - rather than it perhaps linking to a dulicate in one of the other sections.

For example, the same brake pads may be used in a Ferrari as a Saab. So you setup a section for Ferrari and a section for Saab, you're not going to want:

1/ the Ferrari duplicate product description to be giving applications for Saab brake pads
2/ a marketing link in either section taking someone to a duplicate in the other section
3/ a Ferrari owner thinking you're selling him Saab brake pads

You have to be very careful with the name you give to the master product in this case, because when you add the product to the basket, the main product will be added not the duplicate, so if the master product is SAAB brake pads and they buy Ferrari, they will get SAAB brake pads added to the basket - I expect you know this already though.

Thanks Jan - I had spotted this. Rather unfortunate! The parent product just has to have a non-descript short description :-)

From the Saab owners point of view, he'd probably be quite happy to have Ferrari brake pads

Can duplicates be excluded from the Best Sellers/New Products, or do you manually have to go to the tables in Marketing and change them?

I've got the problem where I add a product and duplicate it to other sections and then I get the same product n times in "New Products".
