You can't do this as you did with V7, Actinic decided that it was far too useful and must be removed. Either create a design in DW and register it with Actinic (only can do this with the external layout) or use the design tab in V8.

Progress is a wonderful thing, especially when it digresses.

      so does this mean

so does this mean that even after i create a new design in dw and redgister it in actinic when editing in dw i will always see the actinic variables instead of what they produce, and it wont style properly.
this seems to be the case with the methods i have tried so far.

The first thing to bear in mind is V8 IS DIFFERENT

the only thing to edit in DW now is the outer layout.

inner layouts such as section layouts, product layouts are viewed within Actinic, you can view the code and you can view the resultant layout. Maybe you should go to Window, Restore initial layout view to get all the default views working correctly again.

There is nothing to stop you from copy/paste code from inner layouts to DW to edit them there, but you may find it better to see how much you can do within Actinic first.

You can also edit your css file in DW or other CSS ediiting package, again you have to register the css to get it to preview.

There are lots of other threads discussing this, go take a read of them to get a few ideas how others have tackled this change
