Crystal Reports - Editing Actinic

Good morning folks,

I've been thinking of acquiring "Crystal Reports" ever since acquiring Actinic v6 a while ago; however, given the limited amount of changes I actually required, it's price has always put me off. So we've just managed.

Nevertheless, this looked promising:

until I found out that it appears only v8.5 will perform satisfactory edits of Actinic reports.

Does this remain true for Actinic v8 customers as well (we're still trying to perform a satisfactory upgrade of our much 'bastardised' v7 site! But we'll get there! Eventually! Aaarrrggghhh!)?

Yes, version 8 still uses Crystal Reports 8.5

Wow, that was quick!

Excuse the naiveté but what happens if I try to 'open', 'edit' and 'save' a report using a later version than Crystal Reports v8.5?

Is it simply that certain 'newer' features and 'formatting' cannot be employed, or does v11 actually save the report in an entirely differently coded (i.e. incompatible) manner?

On that basis, is there not a way of saving documents edited in a later version of Crystal Reports in a previous 'format', as with many word processors?

I suppose ultimately I'm asking should I take advantage of the eBuyer pricing!!!?

Only V8.5 is compatible. Don't waste your money on any other version.

The newer versions can open, edit and save the Actinic reports but once you have saved them Actinic will not be able to open them.
