    Click through on brochure page

    Hi,

Is it possible to automatically open another web site just by clicking on a brochure page and without the user clicking on some linked text in a fragment's text box?

    Thanks in advance,

    Tb.

It is possible, however bad practice in my opinion, leave the user in control, don't try and dictate with "my way or the highway", cos it undoubtedly will become the highway.

      Hi,

It's still the same site just a subset of it. I'm building a seperate site, within the main site which is a help and support part of the shop. I've included all the links and code to see the basket and check out etc plus used the css to make my subsite look and feel the same.

      How do you do it?

      Thanks,

      Tb.

        This will do it:
        <meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" content="0; url=http://www.yourdomain.com/index.html">
but I'm not sure if the search engines will like it.

You may also need to devise an 'Actinic block' to ensure that it only appears in the correct brochure page.

          Thanks

Is there another command a little more search engine friendly?

Or is it possible to create a new layout specifically for a brocure fragment that would load the page on clicking the brochure link?

          Cheers,

          Tb.

Do you mean a link in the navigation? In which case you could change the link there - at source rather than redirect.

Then you could hard-code your brochure page navigation. Otherwise perhaps just add a hard coded link to the page you want next to the brochure navigation - you wouldn't have to create a brochure page or redirect at all.

I've had a look at the content tree in design mode and tried to find the brochure building section. Could you point me in the right direction so I can insert my brochure item code

                  Thanks again.

                  Tb.

It depends on your theme (or custom layout) but on any layout look for the brochure links in design mode and click on the button or text.

Forget design mode - you're trying to add content. On the content tab, right click the topmost item in the tree and select to add a new brochure page.

I had assumed you wanted the help and support as a set of brochure pages - or at least the main introduction to help and support as a brochure page. Reading the earlier posts - that does not appear to be the case.

I wonder why not? If you are taking your visitors off to an area that uses a different layout, different navigation and a different "look and feel" you will be taking a chance that they become confused and suspicious.

You can "wonder why not" as much as you fancy but the long and the short of it is that we want:-

                          1) A collection of brochure like web pages
                          2) Informative help and support sections for my shop
                          3) It to blend seamlessly into the catalog
                          4) Minimises confusion
                          5) Help and educate

                          I don't want a :-

"different layout, different navigation and a different look and feel"

and I certainley dont want to:-

"...take the chance that they will become confused and suspicious"

Thanks for all your help and input,

                          I'll get my coat!

                          Ciao,

                          Tb.

The best solution is to create all the required pages within Actinic as brochure pages and use fragments for the content. It may mean redoing some existing pages that you already have but would be easy to maintain.
You can add as many brochure pages as you want by highlighting the 'Home' icon in the Actinic Tree, right-clicking and selecting new Brochure Page.
                            Does this help?

                              Hi,

Yes you've been very helpfull. The problem is my help section is very complicated. It's written/designed in Dreamweaver and will use lots of multimedia content (Flash & Quicktime etc) plus external collaborator content.

It's so much easier to have a completely seperate site that seamlessly slots into the shop.

                              Cheers,

                              Tb.
